I've pre-ordered the Hong Kong Deluxe Edition. Haven't decided about the EE.

2 disc and thats it. The last thing this movie needs is to be longer.

Can we expect an extended version of Kong on DVD in the future?

I hope so — that's very much up to Universal. Obviously, doing an extended cut of Kong is expensive.... Every extra minute of film that you add, you're adding potentially another 20 or 30 more visual effects shots. So I think Universal are getting their heads around all that. We're figuring out what the sequences could be, because we do have a lot of really great scenes that we didn't put into the movie — some very very exciting dinosaur sequences — so I'm hoping there will be an extended cut.

I didn't get around to seeing the movie at the theater, so I'll be ehading down to Best Buy to pick up the 2 disc version, since if there's a SE edition of any movie, then I always go for that one. There's days where I'll watch the special features on some movies.

so the shots aren't even created? i thought there were shots on the cutting room floor somewhere. if there aren't snippets that amount to much to include via seamless branching i highly doubt an EE is in the future. with the LOTR franchise, the movie was already there.

Why make an extended version? The biggest complaint about this movie in every forum was “it was too long”. Why do people all of a sudden want more footage added on DVD?

I’m confused here….

Because the rumour going around is that the extra footage missing is all action..

Got my 2-disc'r today. Slipcover's nice, but they use the same damn thing for the DVD cover artwork on the inside. Guess i'll have to find a cheap price for the 1 disc version.

What are you talking about? There's a great two-disc set put out by Warner Brothers, in stores now, packaged in a tin case, and with some great features including test footage for "Creation". Get it now!

Who is this Peter Jackson you speak of? And what has he to do with Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack's magnificent classic, "King Kong"?

That's pretty much how I felt.

Since I'm not in a big hurry to get this movie, I'll probably hold off until I know if a longer movie version comes out. After I read the reviews on that, then I'll decide. If no other version comes out, I'll get the 2-disc.

Although I still haven't viewed the film, I'll definitely pick up the 2-discer. In all probability, I'll get any eventual extended cut as well...

copied these specs from ddd for the 2 disc version:
DVD Features:
Region 1
Snap Case With Outer Sleeve
Disc 1: KING KONG (2005)
Anamorphic Widescreen - 2.35
Audio:
Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround - English
Subtitles - English (SDH), French,
Spanish
Disc 2: KING KONG (2005)
Anamorphic Widescreen - 1.78
Audio:
Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo - English
Subtitles - English (SDH), French,
Spanish

Why is there both 2.35:1 and 1.78:1 aspect ratios listed? Is this a mistake, or are they actually releasing 2 different aspect ratios of it? Regardless, I'll still be picking up the 2 disc version.

I think that means that Disc 2 extras will be 1.78:1.

I liked Jack Black in the movie, his OTT acting suited the role quite well IMO

me too. i don't understand all the hate for his performance. he did what he had to do in a role that seemed tailor fit. he played the seedy, smarmy, corruptable, yet charming movie creator perfectly.

Which is exactly what this movie doesn't need. The stampede went on too long. The bug pit scene went on too long. You could even argue that the dino fight and plane attack went on too long. I liked the movie but it was overkill at times.

Not on my end. Liked the film. Liked the voyage there (well, perhaps with the exception of the "Jimmy" subplot). Liked everything about this flick.

Hell, any movie that could make you wanna see a relationship between a (previously thought of) unremarkable blonde and a giant ape...that's movie magic, my friends.

I'll probably wait. Loved the movie, but don't really have time or interest to watch it again right now, especially with how many netflix movies I've got on my list that I really want to watch.

No killer deals on the 2 disc, so I'll hold off and see if a 3 discer is coming or until I find a great deal on the 2 disc down the road.
