How often do you dust/clean your collection?

i am anal about my collection, but lazy when it comes to cleaning. i mean there are just so damn many that it becomes cumbersome.

so...how often and what do you use?

DrGerbil 12-08-05 07:14 PM

My collection is small and sweet. Couple that with a nice shelf and a glass door and I very rarely have to clean anything. Just a litte Windex and Pledge...

gutwrencher 12-08-05 07:20 PM

Most of my titles are sealed in sleeves....and then I use a dust brush.

Done....clean.:D

steebo777 12-08-05 07:26 PM

Once a week I clean my DVD racks and cases. It isn't too bad since I only have ~500.

nightmaster 12-08-05 08:51 PM

I don't like cleaning my house, nevermind my DVD collection.......so never :)

Willh51 12-08-05 09:02 PM

Once or twice a year, I did one this summer and the holiday break is the next time I'll do it.

Comfort Eagle 12-08-05 09:08 PM

I actually dust the shelf about once every two weeks.

ignition 12-08-05 10:07 PM

This is an easy one.

Never. Seriously. They tend not to get that dusty.

DeputyDave 12-08-05 10:20 PM

Never, and I honestly have never noticed dust on my DVDs or shelves. Maybe my wife does it. I do notice her occasionaly getting in the way of TV while rubbing stuff down with a rag.

Josh H 12-08-05 10:25 PM

I dust of my shelf (and the tops and spines of the DVDs on it) every week or two. Pretty much never take them all off and dust if that's what you mean.

The Ferret 12-08-05 10:27 PM

Never, I guess they have gotten a bit dusty, doesn't really bother me though.

SINGLE104 12-09-05 12:41 AM

Never! Technically, it's not necessary to the clean exterior DVD cases. Other furniture, and glassware that's conspicuous with household debris, then yes I will clean, and polish them most frequently to beautify.

ilikebreakdowns 12-09-05 12:50 AM

NEVER! i watch around at least 3 a day so they are always on the mov(i)e HAHA

ilikebreakdowns 12-09-05 12:50 AM

^ get it?

gotrice487 12-09-05 01:25 AM

I dust off the DVDs when I pick one out to watch and notice that the top has collected a layer of dust. I do not dust the spine as they manage to stay clean. Guessing I would say once a month or so?

Heartagram 12-09-05 01:37 AM

When i pull a title off the shelf I will run my finger across the top to get rid of any dust. None on the spine of mine either.

NEVER. Occasionally I'll pull a title off, wipe it on the carpet and then put it back :)

Joe Swiffer! I use my Swiffer duster to take care of the tops of the DVDs and the shelves.

GrimTangent 12-09-05 11:53 AM

Never ever. It's really just an aesthetic concern, right? My DVDs aren't really on display, so I have no reason to. Sure, when I take one out I will, but other than that, never.

JZ1276 12-09-05 12:00 PM

it looks like everyone is running out of things to talk about here

gongon78 12-09-05 12:01 PM

Take 2 minutes out of every week to give it a wipe down with a Swiffer. It's a pain sometimes, but it's OK. I spent a lot of money and a lot of time on it.

GIjon213 12-09-05 12:28 PM

I actually never clean my collection, but there is a method to my madness. I have my collection in thin metal racks attached to my Entertainment Center. Those on the racks are ones that still have packaging on them. I also have a Sony 400 disc changer, so once I open one, I put the case in a box and the DVD remains in the player. The plastic covering the movies gets a little dusty, but that is all. Oh, and the top of the DVD changer! I actually am running out of room in the player, so that means another one on top of that one! Good news, the first one's top won't get as dusty. The bad news, I still have one top to clean.

MEJHarrison 12-09-05 04:20 PM

Mine are kept in a locked cabinet. They still get a little dusty, but it's not a big concern. When I notice some dust, I just wipe it off.

Dazed 12-09-05 06:21 PM

I cant remember the last time I dusted mine. They dont appear to get too dusty though so its fine :)

Libby 12-09-05 09:55 PM

I try to ensure they stay organized throughout the year and re organize every few months but dusting isnt something I do. I figure thats why dvds are kept in cases. To keep the dust out.

ShallowHal 12-10-05 01:41 AM

I'd say about every 2 weeks I'll wipe at them with a towel, but once a month I'll take them off the shelves to wipe off the top and Windex the shelves. I do the TV stand at the same time, then vacuum the whole place. I didn't used to keep a schedule (and it's not like I have a day planned for it), but I got tired of the run-around-clean-everything-because-people-are-coming-over years ago.
