But right now, as far as I'm concernded it's a moot point, so that's the last I've got to say about, unless I happen to actually come across one, and can get a picture of it. Other than that, I'm done talking about it.
If you guys are talking about a 5 disk Evolution box set (minus the BEHIND disk) it exists. I saw one about a year or two ago at a Tower Records (right around the time the Image 2-disk BEHIND was released).
For a brief moment, I thought about selling my 6 disk set so that I could use the profits to pick up the 5 disk set AND the 2-disk BEHIND release. Then, sanity come over me, and I decided that I'd live with my now less-than-ideal 6 disk set.
Believe me or don't. I just had to get it off my chest.

Just ordered mine from DDD. I have no idea where I'm going to put the ape head.
The girlfriend and cat are going to be thrilled, I'm sure.

Anyway, I remember it being $175.99 or there about so I ordered it from DDD (it shipped yesterday) for $125 and change.
I mean, how could I not buy the freakin' ape head?!? The very day I saw the pictures go up I showed my wife and told her not to be suprised when it showed up in the mail.

Just found a cached google page from Bestbuy. I guess they had it up at one point.

Numbers 1-100 have been stocked by Amazon.com and will be shipped randomly to customers who order this item.

My local FYE had the new single disc Planet of the Apes on sale already for $9.99. They didn't have any of the sequels on the racks, and I didn't see the new box sets either.
It was definitely the new release though, with the new artwork, in anamorphic widescreen on one disc.

Got mine today. I'm very impressed with the quality of this set. Very well made. I hope we get more R1 releases like this.
I will say that it is extremely well packaged. You won't have to worry about it getting damaged. It comes in a styrofoam clamshell type package that wraps the whole head perfectly. It would take extraordinary damage to damage the ape head itself.
DDD packaged it inside of a cardboard box which fit the actual box perfectly. There is NO WAY it could shift around. Also the DVDs are packaged in a such a way that I don't think it would be possible to get a floater. The manufacturer obviously thought about shipping damage issues on this one.
The discs are packaged in a "flap" in the back of the head (velcro holds it down). Once you open the flap, there is a box of DVDs (about 6 inches by 6 inches). There is an outer cardboard "sleeve" that you remove the inner package from. This inner package opens like a book to reveal 7 discs on each side which open sort of like pages of a book. The whole box fits into the head tightly (no moving around is possible).
Mine was in the 5400's (out of 10,000).

I'm still on the fence about this one. I want to go ahead and order it before it sells out, but I have spent too much on Dvds this month already. How long do you guys think it will be before it is sold out.
