Now that is sweet!
Region 1 never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever gets anything cool like that. Ever!
I wonder what Wal Mart will recommend to buyers of this set. ;)
That region 2 set is freaking awesome. It's such bullshit that we never get the cool stuff like that over here.
unless these films are new anamophic transfers, I am not excited.. hmm. wonder if this would fit nicely on a few Blue Ray DVDs?

I've been reading the ape head will also be used in the US version, which I think is terrible news.
I've got no problem with it being available for those who want such things, but it should also be out there in more traditional, less cumbersome packaging. |
Well, hopefully only Region 2 is getting the head, so for Region 1 people, I just wish they'd lower the price, period.
I'd buy the ape head for sure, but I already own a lot of the DVDs, in fact I just recently found a good used copy of the Original film 2 disc set. I just need the classic sequels in 16x9 and the animated series.
I want the ape head and don't mind paying the extra for it even though i have most of the discs already. I hope the rumors of it being used in R1 are true. And hopefully there is a set without it for those of you who only want the discs.

USA Today article says it will be everything including cartoons....looking for article. |
I also saw the USA Today Article this morning. The paper has the same picture of the bust that Cameron posted above.
USAToday.com Link "DVD 'Apes' collection gets a big head Fox Home Entertainment is not monkeying around with Planet of the Apes:The Ultimate DVD Collection (Fox, $180; out March 28). For starters, the 14 discs includes all five original films —Planet of the Apes (starring Charlton Heston), Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape from the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and Battle for the Planet of the Apes— along with the 2001 remake starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Tim Burton. Also included is the disc of bonus material released in the 25th-anniversary edition Planet of the Apes DVD. But there's more: the entire 1974 Planet of the Apes TV series and the 1975 Return to the Planet of the Apes animated series. To top it off, the collection comes in a limited-edition ape-head-shaped package based on Roddy McDowall's character, Caesar, in Conquest. The character was designed by makeup artist John Chambers, who worked on all five films. -Mike Snider " |
thanks for the article....wonder if it will have the bonus disc from the remake?
That ape head is scary....
Imagine walking into your den at night with that thing staring at you!! Anyways, I hope it's optional if you can get the head or not. |
Excellent! But where the hell do the DVD's go?

14 discs fit in the pockets? I'm not visualizing it :(
Sounds awesome -- especially since I own none of the above that are to be included. :)
Maybe the base holds the box w/discs. You just lift up the entire ape body....?
how did it work with the R2 godzilla head

so this should be around 112$ after discount....hmm
Looking at the R2 set that dx23 posted, there's a box that the discs go in. Presumably, the box fits in the ape's torso and you can take it out (as in the picture) and keep the ape head elsewhere if you want.
Alreadly own the old boxset as well as the TV set but i love the films so as long as they're new transfers i'll definitely buy. Plus i love the ape head!
