The Thing Called Love - March 7, 2006
From DVDActive.com:
Paramount Home Entertainment has sent over artwork for a Director's Cut of The Thing Called Love which stars River Phoenix, Samantha Mathis, Dermont Mulroney and Sandra Bullock. The disc will be available to own from the 7th March, and should set you back around $19.99 or thereabouts. I'm afraid we have no word on disc specs for this one yet, but we can confirm the runtime of 118 minutes. We'll bring you further details, just as soon as we get them. Stay tuned. For now though, here's the final artwork: http://www.dvdactive.com/images/news...ovedcr1art.jpg Been waiting a long time for this one. Always been a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine. Love the movie, even if I'm not at all a fan of country music (save the Man In Black). The cover, however, leaves something to be desired. Bleh. K |
I used to watch this on HBO all the time back in the day. I'm glad to hear of it finally getting a dvd release. I'll definitely get it.
|
I am picking this one up, for sure.
|
Great performances. Will surely get this one.
|
I hope it's not a sequel to Carpenter's film.
|
Have it on laser and haven't watched it in a while. IIRC it was pretty good. May have to pick this up.

Dvdactive.com has put up the extras for this release:
Extra material will include an audio commentary with director Peter Bogdanovich, a The Thing Called Love - A Look Back featurette, another featurette on the look of the film, an Our Friend River feature, and the original theatrical trailer. http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...lled-love.html |
Paramount better hold to this release, this is shaping up to be a must buy dvd for me when it's released. Nice back cover!

I just like seeing Peter Bogdanovich randomly thrown in terrible commentary to another release. Here is another one for everyone else to enjoy. I love The Last Picture Show and all but companies may just want to tell no to Peter every once in awhile.

This is a cool flick, but I'll hold off seeing as that cover has $5.50 written all over it!

I got this at Bestbuy today. Already watched the whole thing. I disagree with the review posted here on DVDtalk about the video transfer, I thought it was just picture perfect. There isn't a big difference between the original and director's cut, so if you want more you will be mad. The special features are great.
If you like this film, like me, buy this. You will be quite pleased with what Paramount has done here. However if you don't, consider it as a rental only. The film hasn't aged to well. I am glad to finally own this ya know! |
I'll be picking this one up.
Samantha Mathis.. Great movie too! |
I thought the transfer was excellent as well, there is some slight grain during certain scenes, but you can tell it's supposed to be there.
|
The film must be good and definitely paramount has done a good work with the release of director's cut. it should be a worth buying DVD
