Ed Wood DVD 1st recalled version......

Does anybody actually own this version on dvd?

Can anybody compare this with the other two editions released?

Also, this is probably very rare and impossible to locate.

If anybody has it, can you please scan the whole insert and post it.

Thanks......

This is the cover:

Hmm... that looks like the VHS cover. As far as I recall, there were two editions of Ed Wood on DVD. The first being recalled and the 2nd that is available now. Both have the same covers except on the spine, the recalled was grey and the current black.

I believe the only content difference was there was a documentary about cross dressers on the recalled version.

I seem to remember the Ed Wood DVD being "pushed back" twice, the second time units had already shipped and had to be recalled. And I think the only difference is the removal of the deleted scene where Bela refers to "Those bastards at Universal".

Which is also available as a VOB file on the new version. It's just not accessible from the menu.

Did a search and it's listed at dvdaficianado:
http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.ht...x=36&y=10&rg=A

I also found on an internet search the original release date for it was August 13th 2002.

So this ranks as the 1st recalled one, right?

Can anyone find a back cover of this version?

People are getting confused about the OP's request.

The most recent release of Ed Wood was recalled once and then re-released without the cross-dressing doc.

However, a (bare-bones?) release was scheduled a year or two before that -- with the cover shown above -- and recalled at the last minute. A few of them did get out -- legit copies were once fetching a pretty penny on eBay.

UPC 786936072815 "Special Edition" was originally scheduled for 08/02/2002 (Canceled after a few made it out to customers before the street date). This came out again 10/19/2004 with the same UPC, and has been discontinued. It was re-released (UPC: 786936212501) 09/06/2005 (this is the most current version floating about).

UPC 786936212501 "Special Edition" scheduled for 02/03/2004 was "recalled".

the more recent recalled ed wood is still appearing on shelves at best buy al the time.

there are 2 versions one has a silver spine one has a black.

i think the silver spine is the recalled version.

btw the doc is reported to be on the new after recall version as a vob file that can be found on a computer that has a dvd drive.

I have the version that was recalled. I'd heard rumors that some were floating around on store shelves so I went on a quest to find it. Finally found a copy at an FYE and snatched it up. I don't have the re-released version to compare it with though so I'm not 100% sure of the difference.

This has been discussed before in several other threads. The fact the DVD has the silver spine does NOT guarantee the "When Carol Met Larry" doc. is on there. The only way to know for sure is to buy it and open it. If you were lucky enough to get the first wave, before the recall, and left it sealed, then you know the doc. is on there, but stock on store shelves now, with silver spines do not necessarily include the doc. You will have to open it to check. Especially since the doc. was never mentioned on the back of the DVD case, even on the ones that have it.

The only difference is the inclusion of the documentary, so check the special features and see if you have the doc. I mentioned by name above.

As for the OP's question, let me address that: The DVD you have an image was released before the new one with the silver and black cover. It did not have the deleted scenes and other documentary's included in the new DVD. It is very rare as only a very few got out.

If you actually click on the pic of the cover, it will take you to a larger pic where you can clearly see the DVD logo in the bottom right hand corner.

Mine does have that doc...I've watched it. Thanks for clearing it up though as I'd heard numerous rumors about what the differences actually were.

So the 1st recalled version before the other 2 recalled and non-recalled special edition's (w/ silver, and black spines) is apparently impossible to locate for a collector like myself. Yikes.

That version must at the very least be worth lots of $$$ now.

If anybody has it can you please post a scan, I want to check it out. I mean the very 1st bare bones version, non special edition. But the odds are bad that somebody here does.

Anybody know how many got out of the non-SE version of Ed Wood?

Also, there seems to be some confusion here, the version I am talking about is Buena Vista's original release of the film.

Well, I seriously doubt it's worth much of anything at this point considering it was completely bare-bones. The current non-recalled version is a great disc with an anamorphic print and a bunch of extras. That very first release may be very scarce and only a few got out, but considering it's now basically obsolete since a better version has replaced it, I don't think many people are seeking it out.

Some very good points well made here. I agree. However, I still want to own the disc bare bones or not. That is just me.

Re: Ed Wood DVD 1st recalled version......

It won’t let me upload it but I have an original from before the recall with the doc on it. It was never featured on the back. Email me if you want to see a photo. [email protected].

Re: Ed Wood DVD 1st recalled version......

Ed Wood eventually got out on Blu-ray in a mostly solid release.
