the flat disc looked pretty good, so imagine what a remastered 16:9 is gonna look like!

GIjon213 11-24-05 07:43 AM

I have watched dozens of horror movies, and this is the first movie that actually made me jump. I have been doing my best to hold off buying this, and how I have a reason to continue not buying it til this comes out!

bdshort 11-24-05 10:13 AM

I remember hating this when it came out in theaters, but I'd give it a 2nd chance on DVD, assuming Netflix gets ahold of it. I was really looking forward to it because I dug the trailer, yet I walked out of the theater very dissapointed.

steebo777 11-24-05 11:57 AM

Yeah!!! This flick freaked me out in the theaters (not as much anymore). Even though I dislike everything else Paul W. Anderson does, I like this one.

Cheers!

pagansoul 11-25-05 02:48 PM

I was so upset with the 'baby bear' sequence. I didn't get the movie till I found it at Movie Stop for $5 so I will be getting the re-hash. It is a very 'Hellraiser-like' movie. I prefer the genre over 'Holloween-like' movies when it comes to horror.

Artman 11-25-05 02:55 PM

Hmm...undecided, have never seen this one but have been curious to. Is there a lot of gore? My tolerance level for disturbing imagery is probably at something like 'The Cell'. Would I do better to hold off on this one?

DVDho78DTS 11-27-05 10:30 PM

Finally!

I thought there was supposed to be a commentary.

I pulled the following from the re-releases sticky thread:

From NowPlaying.com: “I just did a commentary for Event Horizon, because we’re releasing a Special Edition of that next year with a lot of deleted scenes,” Anderson told Now Playing Magazine in an exclusive interview. “And I went in and did a truly awful commentary for it that I’m going to redo! Because it had been so long since I’d seen the movie, I just started watching the film and enjoying it, and didn’t remember to say anything. And after like an hour and a half I’d said about 10 minutes of stuff. So that was an important lesson to me because if I end up doing that again, I should watch the movie a few times beforehand. Otherwise you just get bound up in watching the film. So it was a rather expensive way to watch the movie!” “The movie has become such a huge cult hit,” Anderson says. “Paramount has sold so many DVDs of it that they’ve offered to do the fully-fledged ‘You can reintegrate the scenes and we’ll pay for it to be remixed and everything’ version. The problem has been actually finding all of the materials because it’s been quite a long time, so we’re still at the point where we’re trying to decide if it makes sense to do a director’s cut or whether [we should just include] a lot of deleted material with a separate commentary explaining why it was taken out and where the scenes would have gone. Or we may do a branching version of the DVD so you can see where those scenes may have sat.”

I loved this film enough to get the non-anamorphic, which is something I never do. Been hoping and waiting for an SE release, awesome to see it's finally set in stone. Can't wait for the commentaries and deleted scenes.

It is disturbing but if you get the DVD you can always control your experiance by stopping and taking a walk and coming back at another time. Like HELLRAISER (the first films) it can be rather sick, but I like them. :) I love THE CELL.

The gore is definitely beyond the level of The Cell. IMO of course. Think Hellraiser.

Bitgod 12-04-05 09:46 PM

Mmmmm, I'll double-dip this one, need the anamorphic for my new TV.

The Cell is funny, everyone I know, including myself, has the same comment. "I wish that scene with the cape coming off the wall was longer"

clemente 12-08-05 10:03 PM

Hell yes!!

This was one of the first flicks that genuinely freaked me out, not because people popped out and musical scores, but because it was disturbing.

What happened to Paul Anderson...after MK and this, the dude was on fire. His movies are flaccid and boring. Resident Evil seemed like something he could chew on...but even that was mostly boring with flashed of coolness.

But back to the DVD...this has been one of my most wanted titles, so I'm stashing 20 bucks away until April.

Also, on the Paramount front, we've got some early word on the extras to expect on the studio's forthcoming DVD editions of Event Horizon (4/18) and Aeon Flux (4/25).

The 2-disc Event Horizon: Special Collector's Edition will include include audio commentary by director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt, the 5-part Making of Event Horizon documentary, The Unseen Event Horizon featurette (on an unfilmed rescue scene, featuring conceptual artwork), The Point of No Return featurette (on the filming of the movie itself), the original theatrical trailer and a video trailer.

TomOpus 01-26-06 07:07 AM

Nice... can't wait for this

ShagMan 01-26-06 07:47 AM

Excellent news, thanks for bringing over that snippet!

DVDho78DTS 01-26-06 08:11 AM

Sweet dude.

Goldblum 01-26-06 08:30 AM

No director's cut. :(

Mr. Cinema 02-03-06 06:14 AM

Cool cover. Nice price. At least we'll be able to view the deleted scenes.

TomOpus 02-03-06 06:46 AM

Very cool!

steebo777 02-03-06 07:26 AM

I think the cover is hideous, but I don't buy a dvd for it's cover. I am still very excited for this release!

ShagMan 02-03-06 09:16 AM

Looking good! I have to say, I prefer the greenish tint of the previous release a bit better though. At least they stuck with the same cover art!

starving dvder 02-04-06 07:31 AM

Finally after years of waiting!! Hmmm....... Amazon says the new edition is unrated. This true?

Fincher Fan 02-04-06 07:44 AM

That font is horrible.
