This whole "in-store burning" thing was supposed to happen with music CDs years ago. Obviously, it never happened and it won't happen with DVDs either.

This is the reason why DVD has remained profitable and CD sales are shrinking. DVD has a lot of value added features at a very attractive pricepoint that "homemade discs cannot match. Only now is the the allure of homemmade discs starting to take over, which means the studios just have to work that much harder to keep people buying. This burning thing is NOT an answer.

Can you imagine what release day Tuesdays would be like?
Those who dash out from work at lunchtime might be in for a surprise. Rather than grabbing the disc off the new release shelf - there'd be a whole lineup of people waiting at the burn-station for their copy; each disc would take about ten minutes. Not feasible.

Yup, Walmart has probably the worlds most astute marketing organization. They know exactly what their markets will bear and they price accordingly. I live in a smallish city (100,000) and we have 2 Walmarts, one north and one south. The northern part of the city is a bit more upscale. We're not talking Richie Rich vs slums, the differences are very small. The prices in the north Walmart are higher across the board. It has always been cost effective to drive to the south store if you needed more than a couple items (until the cost of gas went up, now it takes twice as much to make the drive worthwhile). Big ticket stuff, we always drive south. Sorry, I digress as well...
