Bill Murray Classic Comedy Collection 01.17.06

Laugh Out Loud With The Irrepressible Funnyman Bill Murray!

CLASSIC COMEDIES COLLECTION

STRIPES (EXTENDED CUT)
GHOSTBUSTERS
GROUNDHOG DAY SPECIAL EDITION

Three Disc Set Available on DVD January 17, 2006!

Culver City, CA (November 7, 2005) – Sony Pictures Home Entertainment proudly releases three of Bill Murray’s funniest films in one must have DVD set. Now fans can own Stripes (Extended Cut), Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day Special Edition in the Classic Comedies Collection for an extremely affordable $24.95 SLP.

From his first wacky appearances on “Saturday Night Live” in 1975 to his bittersweet comedic turn in Lost in Translation (for which he was Oscarâ nominated and won a Golden Globe), Bill Murray has been the go-to guy for laughs. And never has Murray been funnier than playing the sarcastic wiseguy as he does in these three hilarious movies. In Stripes, directed by Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters, Kindergarten Cop), Murray teamed with Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters, As Good As It Gets) and John Candy (Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Splash) to play a half-hearted Army recruit who is determined to
get through basic training with as little work as possible. For Ghostbusters, Murray re-teamed with Reitman and Ramis and added Dan Aykroyd (Christmas With The Kranks, 50 First Dates) and Sigourney Weaver (Alien, The Village) in a story about research scientists who aspire to track down and eliminate poltergeists from New York City. Groundhog Day finds Murray in one of his finest performances as a weatherman forced to relive the same day over and over. Harold Ramis moved behind the camera to write and direct this film and Murray was ably supported by Andie McDowell (Beauty Shop, Four Weddings and a Funeral) and Chris Elliot (TV’s “Everybody Loves Raymond,” There’s Something About Mary).

All three DVDs have been loaded with special features. Groundhog Day Special Edition includes commentary with director Harold Ramis and a documentary. Stripes Extended Cut features six deleted scenes which have been added back into the film, an hour-long making-of documentary including all new interviews with the cast, including Bill Murray and more. Ghostbusters has filmmaker’s commentary, deleted scenes and behind the scenes featurettes.

Synopses

Stripes

Bill Murray has joined the Army, and the Army will never be the same! When John Winger (Murray) loses his job, his car, his apartment and his girlfriend, all in one day, he decides he only has one option: volunteer for Uncle Sam. Stripes is outrageous fun!

Ghostbusters

A trio of university parapsychologists lose their research grant and decide to open their own business, “Ghostbusters,” and almost at once are summoned to investigate the strange happenings in a Central Park West apartment. What they discover is that all Manhattan is being besieged by other worldly demons.

Groundhog Day

Bill Murray is at his wry, wisecracking best in this riotous romantic comedy about a weatherman caught in a personal time warp on the worst day of his life. Cheered by critics as Bill Murray’s best movie ever.

I wonder if these will be in thinpacks like the other recent Sony repackagings? (Monty Python box, American Musicals box). That's definitely a trend that I favor -- saves space on the shelf!

Still don't have Stripes or Groundhog Day. It's a possibility.
