DVD extras being shot in HD?

Question: how much of today's DVD extras are being shot in HD at this point for future use with whichever HD format? Wouldn't it make sense to start doing this now in preparation...plus be able to have extras in 16x9? I'm assuming the Star Wars documentary plus Gladiator and others were shot in HD because the material is presented in 16x9. Just curious if anyone knows...

I'd say that they already do. I just know that Swedish tv shoots almost everything in HD DV, and we don't even have HD yet over here, plus I would bet that the Hollywood studios spend alot more money on most of their featurettes than Swedish tv spends on an entire drama series.

I don't think that extras showing up in 16:9 necessarily means that they were shot in HD. They could have been shot on digital video that was already 16:9 or in 4:3 then letterboxed and "anamorphisized." This would be a great idea, but isn't HD still kinda expensive to just shoot on the set/behind the scenes stuff and interviews?

Hmmm, I'd think that it could be rather inexpensive...I mean they make consumer digital HD cameras right?

The price of shooting footage in HD has reached the level of shooting on DV. So we should see more and more studios shoot behind the scences stuff on HD.

The only problem is there is no way to distribute the HD content now.

Not sure if it was on HD or not, but I know the featurettes on Disney's Atlantis DVD were presented in 16:9.
