Ever buy the same DVD twice? (accidentally)
I bought a used copy of 25th Hour about 6 months ago. I completely forgot about it and bought another copy from the B2G1F sale at DDD. :mad2:
Oh well, at least I'll now have a copy that doesn't have the 'Version francaise incluse' stuff on the front. It just bugs me that there were another 1 or 2 discs that I was deciding between which got left out instead. |
I one bought A Time to Kill forgetting I already owned a copy. Funny thing is, I think I picked them both up at one of Walmart's sales a year apart!
|
I accidentally bought The Bourne Identity at work, forgetting that I had pre-ordered it through DDD a month earlier.
|
I just bought the Recruit at a used store, forgetting that I ordered it in the DDD Buena Vista sale. Never thought that my accidental double purchase would be of such a crappy title.
|
I did the same thing on a crappy movie, Buffy the Vampire Slayer out of Wal-marts 4.44 bin.
I felt like a moran when I got home. |
Not really an accident, but I bought the first edition of The Longest Day twice, because the second on is in a WWII boxset that has an OOP 2-disc Patton. Bought it for about 60 bucks. In regular market at that time Patton itself costs as much as I pay for the entire boxset.

The obscure Gene Wilder - Margot Kidder vehicle Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx. I ordered this during the last DDD sale and then read that it was going out of print. Everything else on my order shipped, and then I noticed that the title was removed from my open order list ... it had been removed from DDD's website. I called and emailed, asking if they would still be able to get the title, to which they said yes. After two months and no news I thought that they probably were going to say that it was unavailable, so I bought a copy from an Amazon marketplace seller. Then one week later I receive the original order; DDD came through after all.
So now I have two copies. Since I have less than $10 in both copies combined, I'm not too unhappy. Charming little movie by the way. |
Never accidentally, that I recall ;)... then again I rarely casually shop for DVDs. I usually know specifically what I'm looking for and it's something from my "to buy" list. I purposefully picked up a second copy of Criterion Hard Boiled once though... still not sure what to do w/ it yet though.

A couple of times. The more titles you get in your collection, the easier it becomes. Especially when you buy them at a rate faster than you watch.

Amazingly, I have not done this yet with DVDs, but it happened a few times back in the late part of the last century when I was building up my VHS collection.
|
I bought U-571 at walmart but already had it in my collection....oops
|
I bought a short film collection twice and I once bought one of the seasons of MASH twice.
|
I bought Casino at the last DDD sale and forgot about it and bought it again used at a local Gamestop. For some reason I bought twice used copies of Jurassick Park 3.
|
Only once. I had purchased the "Desperado" superbit years ago, when it first came out and I remember buying that (the rerelease) and "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" and than after I bought it, I remembered I owned the superbit. Lucky me it was not opened yet, so I got my money back.

Never done it myself, but I can see how it happens.
|
I did it with Independence Day during one of the DDD sales...both different versions somehow hehe.
|
If I haven't opened a new DVD yet and I see a dirt-cheap used copy somewhere, I'll buy the used one and sell the sealed copy.
|
Nope

Every buy the same DVD twice? (accidentally)
uhh.....no. I'm in complete control of what I need and what I've already got. |
I've done it about ten times with CDs, but never with DVDs.
|
No, but then, I always go through the ritual of opening them, checking them out, taking off the damn security tags, adding them to Profiler, etc., the day I get the disc. Also, I rarely buy more than one or two DVDs at a time.
I would bet that it happens more often to people who buy discs (especially in groups of several at a time) and leave some of them unopened for a while, if not indefinitely. I think that opening the disc, making sure it's not scratched, watching at least a little of it, etc., helps the knowledge that you have it sink in. |
The day I can't remember what DVD's I own is the day I know it's gotten out of control.
