Freaks (1932)

I really get a kick out of this movie. I first saw it a year ago in my senior year of college in a horror movie class, and it's been in the back of my mind ever since. It's some of the most funniest (and interesting) shit I've ever seen on film. I was wondering who has the dvd and where did you get it? Did you get it from a store, or on the net? I never have seen this movie in a store, but I would like to buy it from a store. I know it's on Amazon, but I've never bought anything off Amazon and I'd prefer walking in to a store to get it. I asked all of the stores that I go to [Best Buy, Blockbuster], and they say they don't have it in their movie list. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I bought it at Best Buy, every BB I know has it...
This isn't some obscure, small-time release. This is a big Warner release. It should be everywhere.

I got mine from a Columbia House DVD club membership. If you're apprehensive about ordering from online stores, you probably feel similar about a club membership. (Check out the DVD Clubs threads to find out how this can definitely work to your advantage sometime. Maybe it will help you get ready for that step.)
But, some info that might help you is that I have seen it at Borders, usually in their Cult Movies section. Checking online, the instore price is $14.99; oddly enough, that's lower than the online price. If you don't see it in stock, check with customer service to special order it for you.

I ordered it online a few years back, a true classic if ever there was one.

Some B&Ms (like Borders) carry this in their Cult section.

Atreus 10-17-05 06:05 AM

I've heard that some places, possibly Borders carries this in their cult section. :D

I bought my copy at Target so as mentioned several times its an easy one to find.

I got mine at Borders.

Groucho 10-17-05 08:29 AM

I've tried to find this too, but all the stores seem to carry is the Fullscreen version.

Like many movies of the 1930's, 1.33:1 is the OAR, so there's no widescreen version.

I was just thinking about this film the other day too. The DVD has some intersting extras, and it goes on sale fairly often. Great film.

Correcting Groucho? Clearly you are not ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

I saw this recently at Borders in the two for $22 bin.

Mondo Kane 10-17-05 10:37 AM

Got mine at Best Buy.

I'm still surprised that my small, local videostore had a copy of this for me to see back in the 80's. Considering all the "banned" controversy.

Joe Molotov 10-17-05 11:05 AM

I found a copy at GameStop for $6.

Johnny Boy 10-17-05 06:59 PM

Thanks for all the info guys. I'll probably check out the DVD clubs like RKillgore suggested, since none of the stores around where I live ever seem to have it.

DDD has it for $13.26 (no S&H, of course). Great stuff!

OldRadiator 10-17-05 07:44 PM

Like most everyone else, picked mine up at Best Buy, but I got the only copy on the shelf. Checks a couple of more times to pick one up for my brother, but haven't seen them re-stock it since.

Say what you will about Groucho, but he rarely fails to snag at least one...

Guilty! Yep, fell right into that one...

Green Smurf 10-18-05 08:35 AM

Got mine at Target for 10.00.

on a side note make sure to watch the hour long documentary that is a disc supplement. The commentary is also noteworthy but a tad redundant if you watch the docu first.

I thought you were holding out for the colorized version.

Probably waiting for them to fix the warp in the film stock where some people's heads look too small.
