CRITERION or NOT??? ~~ SEE HERE ~~~
Criterion Bootleg Delimma.... Here is a good example of a Criterion Knock-off.
I have scanned both an original and a boot. Once you click on the link Expand the picture to Normal size by hovering over the image and clicking the icon on the bottom right. Can you see the difference? 1st and foremost the top is the bootleg. Notice how the entire front of the DVD is entirely printed in Black and only the Metalic is shown? A Criterion will always have a Metalic mirror like ring on the underside. There is also print and what looks like a barcode. I wanted you to see the difference up close. It is a large file so wait on it to load. Your thoughts? |
My thoughts...people should only be worried about Criterion knock offs of Out of Print titles.

:hscratch: ah ok

Somebody bootlegged an Armageddon Criterion?
...why? |

Why on earth would they make a bootleg of a movie that is currently in print, has another in print version available, and is NOT considered one of the greatest movies ever made? :hscratch: |

Furthermore, I sincerely doubt that the world is so overrun with Armageddon CC buyers and bootlegs that this is an issue deserving of it's own thread. -JP |

Second you said in the first post that Criterion will always have a mirrored ring. I thought there were several of the early films (like Salo) which use the white frosted ring. Hey I wonder if anyone thought to bootleg Salo yet? |

The Armaggedon Criterion bootleg I made looks a lot better than that one.

My comment was a facetious one, coated with a thin layer of sincerity. It's wholly illogical to bootleg an Armageddon Criterion. As it's been pointed out, that release is readily available, new and sealed, in most B&M stores and nearly all online outlets. You could even head over to eBay, and be forced to search long and hard to find a bootleg Armageddon Criterion. Supply and demand drives the bootleg market. This title would not make a fiscally wise bootlegging opportunity. So, I'll ask again, why would anybody make a bootleg Armageddon Criterion? Entirely senseless.

Well, it is the greatest movie of all-time. What do you expect?
