Passion of the Christ: English track?

I would really like to get this movie but I don't want to sit reading subtitles for 2 hours. Anyone know if they are going to release a version with an English track?

mel gibson has stated that he will never release this with a dub track.

you can read, why not see the movie? Too many good movies in the world to be skipped over just because they are not in english

Jesus did not speak English. There isn't much dialogue anyway. You may as well hear them mispronounce the Latin numbers.

DGibFen 10-11-05 06:26 PM

Given that Gibson was thinking about releasing the film sans subtitles, you could turn them off and watch it that way.

Duder 10-11-05 06:55 PM

Record yourself reading the subtitles the first time you watch the movie, and then play it back with the TV volume turned down or muted every time after that. Voila! Instant English dub track!

Who wants to read while watching a movie? That's far too much work when I want to sit down and relax, ya know? It's like watching The Simpsons or something while at the same time reading a novel or something.

Joe Molotov 10-11-05 08:27 PM

Well, "Passion of the Christ" is not exactly a movie you sit down and relax to. ;)

dsa_shea 10-11-05 08:38 PM

Yep, not exactly a relaxing movie. And shouldn't this thread be titled "Passion of the English Track"?

If The Passion of the Christ was released with a english audio track, It will definitely not be the same movie Mel Gibson intended to make. The spoken Hebrew language is part of it's authencity, and with a dubbed english track, it will completely destroy the entire original perspective of the film.

I was just goofing because SINGLE104 had posted that same message twice in a row, yet 8 minutes apart. I guess one of them has since been deleted.

FinkPish 10-12-05 01:07 AM

It was probably just an accidental double post then.

Somehow, a large part of the world's population manages this amazing feat without their brains exploding.

Fincher Fan 10-12-05 04:01 AM

I would buy a version of 'Passion' dubbed by today's hottest rappers.

jpfisher 10-12-05 07:58 AM

I think throwing "Jesus Walks" on the soundtrack nonstop from beginning to end would be the only way to ever get me to watch The Passion again...

I am aware of the definition of: Aramaic, but I chose to use the term: Hebrew language for simplification.

It's the hot young stars of the Disney Channel or nothing!

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty silly statement as well. Only in America.

ben12 10-12-05 12:03 PM

Are they going to release a version with the correct bird calls in the background?

A friend of my dad walked out of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon because there was too much reading involved. God, I wish I was kidding.

Down 10-12-05 03:15 PM

While I agree that the subtitles detract from a movie, I do wish there were always available Englis dubs. A have a couple of friends w/ bad eyesight that can barely keep up w/ subtitles.

Since one of em is my wife and we watch movies together, it has effectively cut out some movies I would have otherwise watched.

No! No! No!

Not to be insensitive, but I don't want artists making compromises to appeal to narrow special interest groups. There may be services for the vision impaired community that offer after-market dubbing or something, but I don't think that studios should be forced to alter a director's vision (no pun intended) in order to cater to all possible viewers.
