Would you sell your DVD collection (every one) for $10,000?

Not even keeping a single one. I can't believe there are too many whose collection is nearly worth that much. So would you give up a collection you worked long a hard for, accumulated from nothing and grew to something you love to look at day in and day out?

I am torn. Given I could use the money, thinking of the time, effort, and sometimes heartache that went into my collecting, it would be such a tough choice.

You?

Kocheese99 10-09-05 11:13 PM

In a heartbeat. $10,000 is alot of money and hell i could use half of that money to buy most of the movies in my collection again. Plus there would be the fun of taking $5,000 and going shopping for DVD's.

The real question would be: Would you give up owning movies/dvd's forever for $10,000? I don't know if i could do that.

Cameron 10-09-05 11:15 PM

my collection is worth more than 10,000

tofu 10-09-05 11:15 PM

Well, I just recently estimated the cost of my collection for the moving company and I calculated that my collection was at least $15k. So if someone offered me $20K, I would definitely consider it. But I would need to find a new hobby.

MovieExchange 10-09-05 11:31 PM

Seeing as MSRP of my collection is $23k, replacement value is definitely over $10k even if I used Deep Discount's next 20% off sale to completely restock. So nope, I wouldn't.

snorlaxnut 10-09-05 11:32 PM

I would. Since most of my collection is a bunch of those Dollar Tree/Wal-Mart $1 DVDs, I think my entire collection is worth between $300 to $350. I would sell my collection, and go back to the dollar store, but I am not going to spend all the $10,000 there.

The Infidel 10-09-05 11:43 PM

With that amount of money, I could pay off my credit card and get my car the repairs it so desperately needs...

...so yes. Yes, I would.

marty888 10-09-05 11:47 PM

Are you kidding? That wouldn't nearly cover replacement costs.

Dazed 10-09-05 11:53 PM

id sell in a heartbeat :) i could buy 4 times the dvds with that money :)

cinephan 10-10-05 12:02 AM

That would barely cover the cost of my collection. Besides I have too much OOP stuff.

SuprVgeta 10-10-05 12:06 AM

Considering I only own 141 DVDs, yeah I'd sell them all for $10,000.

canaryfarmer 10-10-05 12:20 AM

So, is this like the geeky version of "Indecent Proposal"?

Quake1028 10-10-05 12:26 AM

$18,678 is the retail value of my collection. I doubt I could replace everything for 10 grand, and even if I could, the time I would need to spend doing so would more than outweigh any small monetary gain. So, my answer is no.

dolphinboy 10-10-05 12:46 AM

I'm asking 50k.

eedoon 10-10-05 12:53 AM

Of course. 10,000 bucks. Each. :p

bballing 10-10-05 01:05 AM

No. My Van Damme collection itself is worth more than $10,000.

Living Dead 10-10-05 01:43 AM

So is there a site that tallies the worth of your collections, or did some of you guys just sit down and work it out?

Considering how the size of people's collections vary, maybe a better question would have been: Would you sell your collection for its replacement value * [x] %?

danwiz 10-10-05 03:51 AM

Yes! My colletion of 343 DVDs cost me $7,270.19 including all of the shipping charges. I'd make a nice profit at $10,000 and I have dang few OOP titles, so it's be fairly easy to replace about 99.5% of the entire collection. In addition, there are some blind buys I have which I was disappointed that I bought, and I could avoid buying those again!

Fincher Fan 10-10-05 04:21 AM

Considering I have two copies of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation in my collection... yes. Yes, I would.

InnocentBlood 10-10-05 04:47 AM

USD$10K is nearly $18K where i live so maybe yeah i would...

speedyray 10-10-05 06:32 AM

Maybe, but it would not really cover replacement cost so I doubt it. If I was not in debt I wouldn't even consider it. But, 10K would pay off most of my debt other than school loans.

TomOpus 10-10-05 07:00 AM

Nope. Too many personally signed DVDs that are irreplaceable.

mookiemeister 10-10-05 07:12 AM

My collection has a few OOP titles, but I wouldn't mind selling everything for $10k and start collecting from scratch again.
