DVDTalk's review is up. He didn't compare the A/V quality to the previous release (although he says it "looks and sounds great"), and does highly recommend it.
A couple things of note: Hughes' commentary is NOT on the disc nor is the trailer (though you do get "trailers" for other Paramount discs, and it is NOT a 2-disc set, as previously reported.

The reviewer does, in fact, make a comparison to the original:
...and a lot of the muddiness and the mpeg compression artifacts that were present on the first DVD release have been eliminated.
This comes to no surprise since the original DVD was an early release. I will be curious to read more reviews.

These names suck... I'm suprised that Paramount's recent rerelease of The Warriors wasn't called the "Can You Dig It?" or the "Warriors, Come Out and Play" Edition...

REally lame that they aren't including the original commentary. I'm sure it didn't take up that much space...and the thing is already done, so they didn't have to pay any more money for it.
Of course, what more do I expect of freakin Paramount.
At least it's cheap.

My local Blockbuster here in Los Angeles had this out today. I went through it...it looks about the same as the old release but with less compression and "muddiness," as the review states. The special features are typical Paramount: five featurettes, going into various aspects of the film (casting, production, the character of Ferris Bueller, Ben Stein and on-set interviews). No trailer, no commentary (from the old disc).
Overall, it provides a decent amount of info and it's good to hear current thoughts from most everyone (except Charlie Sheen, Mia Sara and, most glaringly, John Hughes). Still, without that commentary and any real deleted scenes (there's one shown through on-set footage in one of the featurettes), this release is only okay.

I sort of want this for the transfer (the previous one is almost perfect, but it has compression problems in a lot of places, most noticably the "Twist and Shout" scene), but omitting the commentary is a really stupid move.

Amazon seems to have two versions up, does anyone know the difference between these two?

Speaking of Amazon and their listings (and I know this is somewhat off topic, but...), has everyone else noticed how their listings have suddenly gone to hell? There are constantly multiple listings for things and random listings indicating the theatrical release for older titles...very annoying.
But back on track, yes, Amazon was just stupid with the Ferris Bueller listings.

After watching the featurettes this weekend, you can blame Ben Stein for the "Bueller...Bueller" title.
He mentions it over and over in his interviews, leaving Paramount no choice but to name the disc the same.

Well, I decided to double-dip because it is one of my favorite films of my youth. I'm keeping the old edition for the commentary, even though it was incredibly dry.
