Tintin- 90's Canadian Animated Series Questions
I searched and didn't find any threads specific to the Region 1 releases of this show. I've never seen it and am basically completely unfamiliar with it but I have loved the books since I was very young. Would this be a good blind buy? Also, I understand that there were 21 episodes altogether, but I think that only 20 are being released between the two Region 1 sets. Does anyone know if this is true?
Concerning price, has anyone seen any good deals? The best I could find was on Amazon.ca, Volumes 1-10 for $120Can shipped to the US.
Thanks

I believe the packaging is all in French but there are English and French audio tracks listed on the DVDsoon.com site, which also has them available.
Region 2 Anchor Bay UK has a nice set of Tintin discs, but you'd need the hardware to play them.

My suggestion: go region free and buy the entire R2 set for $32.95 shipped from CD-WOW HERE. You'll get the whole set for cheaper, plus you'll be region free so you can buy other non-R1 releases in the future.

Disc-Flipper and DvDude,
Thanks for the responses and the advice. The price on the region 2 set may be enough to finally get me to go region free. There is quite a bit of British stuff (and some American) that I want that is only available region 2. I could take the approximately $70 US savings over Amazon.ca and apply it towards a new DVD player.

You're very welcome. I actually went region free so I could buy Tintin a few years ago. However, the discs were only available separately at the time, so I only bought one for about $22 US. I never got around to getting the other four DVDs due to price.

Slightly off-topic (sorta) - Does anyone recall the Tintin cartoons from the early 1960s? I have a vague memory of a few of these, which were serialized versions that didn't follow the books as closely as the 90s versions did. The episodes I remember were Destination Moon and The Land of Black Gold, although I don't know if those were the titles used. I would love to see these on DVD, although I seem to be the only person who's aware they ever existed!

I would have purchased the R2 version of Tintin if it included the French track and English subtitles. Growing up in Montreal, I’ve faithfully watch the 60`s cartoons and read the books in French. So in order to maintain that authenticity, I purchased the R1 versions (even though it doesn’t include Tintin in America).
But you’ll enjoy owning a region-free player. It’ll open up your DVD world. There are many interesting films in R2 and R3 out there.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but it's better than clouding with a new one.
Since there are 39 episodes, when will the UK release the second set?
In addition, isn't there supposed to be another R1 release here later this year?

Thanks, didn't see this earlier. I'm tempted to get that R2 release for $34 though....only problem is I'm not sure if the US PS2 is region free.
In any case, is the packaging for R2 and R1 different? I see that R1 has the Red and Blue boxes for Vol 1 and 2, but can't see the packaging for R2.
Edit: Never mind about the packaging, I know the differences now. But R1 doesn't have Tintin in America...hmm this is a predicament.

By the way a couple of French black and white movies were also made in the 60's. Not based on the book.

I do not think they are available on DVD anywere.
And finally an adaption of "Le Crabe aux pinces d'or" was made with puppets in the 40's I guess but never released.

All of these are in the R2 "75th Anniversary Box" which I have, but most of the adventures (The Secret of the Unicorn etc) are 2 parters played as 1 (if that makes sense) - so 39 "episodes".
A pity that the UK doesnt allow you to see it in French with English subtitles
