This is Spinal Tap correct framing?
Hey, is the Special Edition on MGM framed correctly, thanks!
|
According to IMDB it says 1.85:1 which is the AR of the MGM dvd.
On the Criterion dvd the AR is 1.70:1 and when comparing both versions, which I own, the framing looks better on the Criterion. It is a similar difference to the MGM (1.85:1) & Criterion (1.66:1) versions of Robocop. |
nope the criterion is wrong...everyone send me your criterions for copies of the mgm edition...i'll find something to do with them... -wink-

And i'm sorry, but you can't have my copy. It's one of the jewels in my collection. ;) |
What actually happened is it was originally 1.85:1, but for the Criterion release, they actually forced Rob Reiner and his director of photography to watch Spinal Tap in every aspect ratio from 1.33:1 all the way up to 2.76:1, increasing the ratio by .01 after each viewing. After watching the movie 143 times, they finally conceeded that 1.70:1 is actually the best aspect ratio for viewing This is Spinal Tap, so that's the way the Criterion DVD was released.
