But those are really time-management decisions, not ones that go to the heart of Lucas presenting to the public what he believes to be his vision. It's not as if any of those DVDs you mentioned were slated to never be released, it was just a question of when. The decision not to release the original 77/80/83 versions of the OT is a very different one, it seems to me: there, the question is not "when," but "if."

I'll be laughing my ass off when Steve Sansweet shows up at his annual Comic-Con STAR WARS panel one of these times and plays a marketing reel that starts off with Mr. Trailer Voice pronouncing, "Back...by popular demand...for a whole new generation..."

Anyway, I know it's easy for some of you to dismiss anyone's disappointment with the state of STAR WARS by rather lazily calling it "whining." The truth is, we love STAR WARS dearly. Probably more than you, since we hold it to a higher standard. And not an impossible standard, mind you. But a standard that was maintained for most of the OT era. You can choose to stick to your "get over it, move on" party line, if you wish. I prefer to keep the faith.

By the way, I love the new packaging for the 3-disc George-Wants-A-New-Ranch Edition. Better than the 4-disc set, in my opinion.

Then do this: Every time the feeling strikes you to threadcrap LIKE YOU ARE DOING, write a letter to LFL who has power to change this. You are preaching to the choir, and frankly we are sick of hearing it.

Those that can talk about reality and don't want to deal in the endless beating of this horse should be permitted to discuss sthings without cleaning the shit off the corn every damn time.

I implore the site management: Create an official "OT Complaint thread" and confine all talk on this topic there. Ridiculous.

I do believe that someday the unmolested trilogy will be rereleased on a contemporary format, even if it means waiting for The Flanneled One's death of old age.

Kinda hypocritical, really. And not very pro-STAR WARS, either. What a shame.

I hate to break it to you, but "Star Wars" doesn't slip into the public domain when George Lucas dies. He will likely specify that his estate maintain his wishes after his death.

Not lazily though; but it is what it is: whining.

That means you're whining about whining. "Who is more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?"

Terrell 11-17-05 08:03 PM

I and many other here love Star Wars more than you can possibly fathom. We just choose not to spend time whining about something that we have no control over, until it's been beaten to death. We choose to love and enjoy Star Wars while we're alive to enjoy it, not ignore it until it's done exactly the way we selfishly want.

Hey, whatever helps you sleep at night.

I was just trying to inject some reality to help you stop wetting your bed at night from your anger and frustration of Lucas and not releasing the originals. Keep holding onto that "higher standard." :)

Nice. I'm staying on-topic, talking about STAR WARS, trying to defend its legacy, while you and your cohorts are resorting to personal insults. And yet, I'm accused of being the threadcrapper. Makes me wonder why you even read and post in a STAR WARS-related thread since you obviously have such little respect for it.

Stay on Target.

But They're too Close!

Stay on Target!

Loosen UP!!

Quite the opposite. Infact, you are now trolling, IMO. You are casting the net out there. Your comments are decidedly off-topic.

Count de Monet 11-18-05 01:49 AM

Sorry you feel that way. I was on this forum long before you and I've never trolled once. Ever. You, however, have engaged in personal insults that have NOTHING to do with STAR WARS. Like I said, a shame.

Given that you've posted to a thread about AN UPCOMING DVD RELEASE ANNOUCEMENT to declare to the universe that you love Star Wars more than other people do, I can only conclude that you don't understand the definition of "trolling." You also obviously don't understand what types of discussions are appropriate for which sub-forums, so the long time you've spent on this forum clearly has failed to give you any special insight.

That you continue bickering over nonsense only justifies my conclusions.

More insults. Nice.

all that talk about luca needing time personally to do the DVD's and how it's his vision is crap. GL and his company are masters of marketing and have perfected the art of selling the same product 10 times over to the same people. If there is a perceived demand for the OT the way it was originally shown, then they will release it on DVD. But it's going to be after the master set of all six movies that will come soon.

My guess is some time around 2010 we'll get the OT in its original form.

Mod note: This thread has seemed to have out lived it's usefulness. To be honest the whole original version v. the reimagined version "debate" is starting to wear a bit thin IMHO. If people want to talk about the upcoming release that is fine, if a new thread is started though please leave the rhetoric out of it.
