Razor Blade Smile?
 

Hi all.

I purchased Anchor Bay Entertainment's new release of Razor Blade Smile recently, and when I received it, I was surprised to learn that the aspect ratio was 1.33:1 Full Frame. Doing a little bit of research online shows that the prior release is 1.85:1 Widescreen.

What is the OAR of this film? IMDB lists it at 1.85:1, but they have been known to be incorrect before.

I'm not sure what to make of this because I've never had to worry about an ABE release being MAR before. Kinda shocked if that's the case.

Any feedback would be wonderful.

ABE own Website claims it to be 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen further contributing to the confusion...

I watched this last night, and was wondering the same thing myself. It says Full Frame on the box. However, when I watched it, it looked widescreen to me, complete with the black bars and everything. Maybe it is an error on the box, like what occured with Ghostbusters?

I have the original release of this and found it quite fun and refreshing. I kept meaning to check out how the new release compares. Anybody know how the features stack up?

From reviews, it looks like the first release didn't have many features. This has the Theatrical Trailer, Slices of Life Documentary, Audio Commentary, Outtakes, Deleted and Alternate Scenes, CG Test Shots and general vampire related AB trailers. As for the extras, I have only watched the documentary so far. It is about 58 minutes and consists of interviews with the main players undercut with footage from the film. I enjoyed it a lot. I will probably watch the rest of the features tonight.

Interesting. I can't find my copy at the moment, but it's listed as a 101 minute R-rated version whereas the new release is listed as an unrated 98 minutes. What gives? Are they different cuts of the movie? Is the new release anamorphic widescreen? Or matted?

I watched mine windowboxed and I have a decent sized tv, and it didn't look nearly as bad as all that. For how it was shot, it looked fine to me. He must have a huge set up or something. At any rate, at least now the mystery is solved. That was driving me crazy.

The original release is a DVD-5 with almost no features. It to is of so-so quality and also matted widescreen. If both versions are from the same source, maybe it's worth an upgrade for the new features. I wish the review previously mentioned had compared the two releases. Can anybody with access to this disc and a DVD-rom tell us more about the files sizes? Or if it's a dual layer disc?
