Get Smart - It's The Old 'The DVDs Are Coming Out In 2006' Trick!

It's not a trick! Home Theater Forum member "Steve...O" posted info he was relaying from Carl Birkmeyer's Get Smart Yahoo Group, in which he passes along information that says that DVDs are on-the-way for 2006, and that HBO has been confirmed as the studio which will provide it.
According to the blurb, the studio has given the project to one of the best DVD producers, who is striving to provide uncut episodes as well as bonus material that fans should be pleased with. Birkmeyer also runs the WouldYouBelieve.com website, and has updated the "FAQ" page with a shorter version of that announcement.
Why HBO? As we stated in our last news update, Birkmeyer had told us at the time that HBO ought to be the current property owner due to their production of the 1995 Get Smart remake series starring Don Adams, Barbara Feldon, and Andy Dick. We assume that he followed up on that line of inquiry and got the information he's so happily providing!
We couldn't be more pleased at this information ourselves (I started to dance around the room, but Gord reminded me that "Zis is TVShowsOnDVD; ve don't dance around rooms here!). We're trying to find out more, so stay tuned and we'll update you just as soon as we can.

I recently bought Get Smart Again, the reunion movie with pretty much the entire surviving cast, and I had forgotten how well done it was. It really captured the style of the original series. The Nude Bomb, by comparison, missed the mark - and by more than "that much."
Anyway, watching that DVD got me thinking about buying the series on DVD when it came out. Now we know when it's coming. Good news.

Would you believe Season 1 to be released this fall?

I don't know if it's good or bad Time Life will be releasing it.. I hope they don't go the whole lame "volume" route but since Gord says "all 29 color episodes" ..it would indicate to me they're going the season route..
Kind of weird that HBO/TW isn't releasing it, but since Time-Life was previously owned by Time Warner, they probably have a good relationship (hence the release)..seems strange to me though..
But as long as they don't screw anything up, I'll be happy..

I'm sure this will be a quality release. They've been working on it for a long time, and EVERYONE involved in the set wants it to be the best possible release. This is the biggest title Time Life has ever had, and they want to make sure it's awesome. Paul Brownstein is working on the special features; you'll know him from Twilight Zone, Dick Van Dyke Show, The Wild Wild West...
I'm excited for it.

Andy Dick was in the Get Smart remake? How old is that guy?
A fall release - hmmm... do you know what this means?
This means until then, my life will be in constant danger!
My enemies will try to stop me at every turn!
I'll be under endless attacks by the forces of evil until the release date!
And loving it!

OK, Fall = Autumn over here (Australia) and it's summer over there so we're talking September 06 - or do I need to subract the number I first thought of?
Also, TimeLife don't retail in stores over here, it's all "Phone in the next 30 minutes and not only do you get Vol 1 but we'll you sell Vol 2 for the low price of ....blah, blah, blah" - is this the same model in the US or will these be available in stores?
Cheers

I was gonna start a thread to talk about this, but I see I already started a thread to talk about this.
I think amazon will be selling this, even though it is Time Life. There's too much money at stake not to do it that way.

Speaking for USA, anyway: this WILL be in stores, not just sold online. And Don Adams did NOT have a chance to record commentaries before he passed away; whatever fog there was that kept DVDs from getting made finally cleared up just 2 or 3 days prior to his death.
"Fall 2006" = Sept/Oct/Nov-ish timeframe.
