Anytime someone other than someone in the film is featured on the front cover.

This goes for obvious body doubles or inserted props/body parts, or things like a picture of the director or producer on the cover (unless it's part of an important set of said filmmaker's films).

The Hong Kong version of "Sahara" (the 1940's Bogart version) which has F15's and Blackhawk helicopters in the background of the cover.

Remember when "chapter stops", "animated menus" and "original trailer" were listed as special features? Paramount was the worst at this (their dvds never actually had special features for the longest time so I suppose they had to gloat about something). Pssh.

Any DVD with a tagline touting some other terrible movie as if it's a selling point like, "From the Director of Pearl Harbor," or "From the Producers Who Broght You House of the Dead and Alone in the Dark." Yeah that makes me really want to buy it.

Most "critic's" quotes. i.e. Most recently on the cover of Dead & Breakfast is the quote; "The US answer to Shaun of the Dead." The source: Ain't it Cool News, of course.

I have a Taiwanese bootleg of the French movie, Secret Agents, starring Vincent Cassel and Monica Bellucci...

on the back cover, here are the marketing quotes - the bootleggers used a combination of some text probably from ALI, FARENHEIGHT 411, and HELLBOY:

"THE FILM WAS OBVIOUSLY STRUCTURED TO REQUIRE VERY LITTLE ACTING FROM WILL SMITH." --Victoria Alexander, FILMSINREVIEW.COM

"Theoretically speaking anyone could have enjoyed Fahrenheit simply on cinematic terms. It was very effectively edited, the choice of music was a plus above everything else, you have to admit, bot was funny. This movie was not a movie I wanted to see from the get-to. I knew from the preview that it was going to be a boot-leg X-men. I don't know any details on the Hellboy comic but I don't think I would even be interested. I saw this movie bootleg at my brother's house and it wasn't even worth that. My opinion wait to see it on somethin..."

When first released in 1999, the original pressings of "Psycho II," from Goodtimes, had the caption "The Bates Hotel is Back in Business." on the front cover. Obviously, any Psycho fan knows that it's The Bates Motel, not hotel. This was corrected on future pressings.

Disney would list "Disc Art" as a Special Feature... I believe it was their Gold Collection series.

bootleg dvds shouldnt even count thought because you can put whatever you want on there anyhow.
pus they arent real releases/legitimate dvds.

The cover of Bark had nothing to do with the movie, and to a certain extent, neither did the trailer. My wife and I enjoyed Bark but we probaby would not have watched it if we saw the trailer and cover first.

I guess the military has been developing those for awhile.

on "tuck everlasting": "from the studio that bought you the princess diaries"! Now i haven't seen tuck everlasting, but from what i have heard, it has nothing to do with princess's and what not.

Daniel L 09-11-05 11:44 PM

To this day I remember the VHS cover of "Don't Tell Mom, The Babysitter's Dead" featured a quote saying the movie was "5 Times Funnier Than Home Alone!".. What the HELL does that mean? I really can't tell which movie was worse. I will never see either of them again while I am alive, this I promise you.

That's awesome. Almost as bad as as touting the keepcase itself as a feature, or boasting the chemical composition of the disc. "Includes 'LASERS' ".

tdilia 09-12-05 12:15 PM

The stupidest on a DVD cover:

"The black bars on the top and bottom of your TV are normal"

Are you freakin' kidding!!??
