Are there any DVD buying rules in your family?
Are there any DVD buying rules in your family?
What I mean by that is, I live with my parents and both my dad and I purchase DVDs, although I buy a lot more and more often than my dad, and our main "rule" is that I can't buy any Clint Eastwood DVDs and my dad can't buy any Robert DeNiro DVDs, I own all the DeNiro and he owns all the Eastwood.
Anybody else have any "rules" like that?
I know it's kind of stupid but I was just curious...

Basically the only important DVD related rules are
(1) if you want a movie tell me so I can find the best price and version
(2) the kids do not touch my movies - only their movies
(3) no scary movies until the kids go to bed
(4) no movie is loaned out until I have seen it except under special circumstances
(5) any movie leaving my house must be on a list so I know who has it
There are probably more but that is the big ones that I can remember this morning.

only one, if I double dip on a movie, the first disc edition has to be sold, given away. It's a space issue, too many discs here and there in the tv room, makes significant other a dull (angry) boy.

a) I buy the DVD's and everyone else watches them.
b) No DVD gets loaned out to ANYONE. I will however provide directions to Blockbuster free of charge.
c) If you leave finger prints on my DVD you will be subjected to extended harrassment, including idle threats of not being able to watch my DVD's any more.

1) Don't get me a DVD for a gift unless you know it's one I want.
2) I don't loan my DVDs, period. Particularly to my sister-in-law, her husband and their two kids. People who should not even be allowed to own a DVD player, let alone watch DVDs.
3) My wife does, when I'm not around, and they always come back with smudges and fingerprints
4) What's more important? A wife or a DVD collection?
Hmmmm, got to think about that.

I don't have any rules for my DVDs, because nobody can access them. I lock my door when I leave (there isn't a key hole for it, you need a toothpick to open it) and my collection is in a glass case, which is locked at all times. And I'm the only one with a key for it.

I don't share. My mom has her DVDs, I've got mine. I've never been great with sharing something, so if she owns a particular title I want, I'm likely to eventually get one for myself down the road. I just don't like the idea of co-owning something that can be had for a relatively inexpensive price.

Three simple rules:
1. When buying DVDs, make sure that the widescreen edition is the one bought. If not sure that there is a widescreen edition available, do some research.
2. Check the dvdplanet wishlist before buying gifts. No deviation from such specific list is allowed.
3. No loaning of DVDs, unless the other party let's us borrow one in return at the same time.

Not neccesarily rules but questions:
Don't you already have that one?
Didn't you buy enough this week?
What are you going to do with all of those?
