Will high gas prices curb your DVD spending?
 

Gas jumped up 40 cents the other day in my area - up to $3.09. CNN has had experts saying that it'll go up to $4.00. With this added financial burden, I was wondering if this would be cutting into your DVD habit. I think it is for me, as I've been much more picky with what I buy these last couple months. :(

I don't think it will curb my spending, but I will probably be doing more online ordering than I usually do. The only B&M I usually go to is Best Buy, and there's one just a couple minutes from here (maybe 3 miles, max).

However, I'll probably stop doing my used store/pawn shop treasure hunts that I try to do once a month or so.

If anything will curb my DVD buying habits it will be the purchase of my Toyota Prius hybrid, not the gas prices. I think I got the car just at the right time though.

I would say probably, if only for the fact I'm not driving anywhere I don't have to (non-work related; food).

Yes, I drive Chevy C3500 dually = 15 mpg = $100+ for a fillup once a week. I have been becoming more frugal on lots of things. I also almost never shop B&M now.

Not really. I do most of my shopping online anyway but have been known to stop off once or twice in the local B&M if I really gotta have it right away. Our gas here(Lansing, MI) is now $3.19 a gallon for reg/unleaded and there are no signs of slowing.

A little bit. I'll probably cut back on older stuff and just focus on the new releases.

I'm hoping that a little more money will be spent on DVD's, especially used ones. I've been telling my customers that instead of piling into the car and driving somewhere on the weekend, just come out and buy a few movies to watch instead. :)

Since I don't have/need a car ..... no.

I can still order on line (probably 90% of my purchases) and can still walk to Best Buy, Circuit City etc.

I am required to travel approximately twenty miles weekly, round trip to my place of employment. If I decide to go out, and purchase DVDs, or to shop for other items, I'll depart from home a couple of hours early to allow myself sufficient time to run my errands, prior reporting to work. Combining your traveling is economical fuel expenditure.

I think inflating gas prices will curb our spending on just about everything . . . including gas, since I may start taking the bus to work.

Probably not, although I will start buying more online. I've been working on cutting back on my driving for a while now, including when I started working from home earlier this year. I was thinking about it last night, and realized that in the last 7 months, I've cut by gas consumption by over 60%. Other than taking the keys from my wife, there's not much more I can do to conserve gas.

Odd that I came across this thread when I did. Just yesterday, I was so furious at paying $3.19 a gallon for gas that I drove to Blockbuster and bought some dvds on the 3 for $25 deal to make me feel better about leaving the house.!

I'm gonna guess that the implication here is: New York City = no car -> doesn't matter.

Perhaps many of us should start thinking about buying a scooter.

I don't use enough gas that the price of it would affect my dvd buying habits.

Still taking the bus to work most days, so probably not.
