My main problem with Ring 2 was the photography/cinematography. I thought it looked washed out and subpar in the theatre, really missing out on Bazelli's extremely spooky and emotional cool grays, blues, and greens that permeated the entire film. I thought that atmosphere that Verbisnki created and Bazelli refined is what put The Ring above other similar hackneyed projects.
Everything in Ring 2 looked bleak, and not threatening at all. My point is that poor video quality will only exacerbate that problem. |
Ramm,
Hey, I just checked -- the local walmart here has the Ring UR single disc for $16 and the one with the bonus disc is $19. How did you get the bonus pack for $14? Also, the 'walmart exclusive' dvd is even different than the RINGS that came out with the first RING a few months ago? Later, Matt |
Yup, it rang up $14.89 at Walmart here in Hayward, Ca. They had the PG13 for $16 and the UR single or extra disc for $14.89. They had a green sticky on the shelf saying the 2 pack was at the cheaper price. They had both the WS and FS w/ extra disc but there were only 2 WS copies left w/ extra disc while they had about 15 FS copies w/ extra disc.
The bonus disc has 35 mins of different scary bits from both Ring 2 and Ringu 2 as well as 2 short docus on the differences between Ring 2 and Ringu 2. RINGS is only found on the RING 2 dvd itself. The Walmart Exclusive disc has all new extras that are not on the normal UR disc. |
I'm a sucker for extra bonus features, but what's beginning to irritate me about these Wal-Mart exclusives is that, unlike Best Buy, Target and Circuit City, they don't advertise them in a Sunday paper circular so that I know in advance where to make my purchase the next Tuesday! I purchased THE RING TWO from Circuit City on Tuesday to get the best price only to find out a day or two later about this Wal-Mart exclusive, so now I've had to buy the Wal-Mart one and take the Circuit City one back, which is a (admittedly partially self-inflicted) butt ache. So I ask my fellow DVDTalkers this: is there a source that can be consulted in advance of DVD-release Tuesdays that informs of pending exclusive DVDs at Wal-Mart?

There is a sort of unwritten jihad on the net against Wal-Mart that is IMHO self-defeating. They fault Wal-Mart for the flood of fullscreen DVDs, but if they would only make the effort to go to Wal-Mart and buy the widescreen version, that would send a far louder message to the people who order their DVDs. I've seen mentions hear and there on this forum, but not for everyone. I didn't learn about this one myself until a few days ago. I'm going to pick it up this weekend, and make sure Wal-Mart gets the message from me at least. |
Ring 2 extra disc is okay. It has a collection of scenes from Ring 2, Ring, Rings, Ringu, Ringu 2, Ringu 0 and Rasen. It also has a quick feature on the script and two features called Imagination of Ring 2 and Haunting of Ring 2. Adds up to about 35 mins total.

There are a few of us that are, like you, suckers for these bonus type discs, and we try to help each other out by posting what we find there. We often don't find them until after they come out, but we try to catch them in advance. For Wal-mart, one trick I've found is to search the dvd section of their website for 'exclusive' every now and then. They have had quite a few exclusive pack-ins. |
I just got back from my local Walmart and they're charging $4 more for the bonus disc. I thought the point was to offer more for the same price as everyone else, not more for a higher price?
Anyone else in the CHI burbs know of a Walmart that's not charging extra? tks |
