Superman II - Theatrical version/TV/DVD 'missing scene' question

I know for the network television of the film, the most notably exclusion is the scene where the young boy attempts to ride away on a horse to get help after the destruction of his small town only to get killed by Zod (offscreen, obviousily). Is this scene on the DVD edition of the film, I thought I had heard that it's also missing from the video versions of the film

??

I don't remember seeing this scene on the dvd but I could be wrong. I taped the network version of Superman 2 on a Betamax player back in the day and still have it lol. The only other scene I remember as missing in the dvd is when Luther is arrested in front of Superman's ice palace.

wow, I don't remember either of those scenes. I've been meaning to pick up 1-3, though. It was kind of surreal to see all those deleted Jaws scenes years after the fact, since I had gotten so used to the movie. It felt like a dream.

No. It is not on the DVD. It was not in the theatrical cut. Read more here .

I had that on tape for years.

After the boy says to Zod "Please Mr General, let my daddy down!" and Zod drops the boy's father, the video version has a reaction shot of the boy, that's it. In the ABC version, there is no reaction shot. Instead, it shows the boy running to a white horse. The boy gets on his horse and rides away, saying "We'll get some help!" Zod is talking to the townspeople about how he is their ruler and says "No one is to leave this town!" Then he sees the boy riding off (very far away). He says quietly "I said 'no one'." Zod looks at Non, who throws the police light (that he ripped off the patrol car earlier) at the horse. There is a whistling sound as the light is thrown (sounds like a missle), then there is an explosion of dust, then silence... the boy and the horse have obviously been killed. A tearful woman screams "He was only a boy!" Ursa grins and says "Who will never become a man."

well it must have been in the "theatrical" 1980 version cause darmok and myself remember the scene in question.

It wasn't in the theatrical version or any of the home video releases...it was on the ABC televised version.

Incidently, I don't think any of the deleted scenes (seen in the ABC edition) add much to the story...I prefer the theatrical version of Superman II. The deleted scenes I'd REALLY like to see are the ones that got cut from Superman IV - epecially the scene where Clark visits his parents graves.

oh okay, now it's all coming back to me... interestingly I have noticed that the non-ABC television airings do not include the 'death' scene either.

I remember the horse scene and the force-field FOS scenes on the ABC cuts.

ABC also aired an additional scene at the end when Clark bumped into a bully at the Daily Planet elevator; which suddenly reminded him of that stupid truck driver at the diner.

Instead of taking the elevator, he opts to enter a nearby storage room to change. The next scene has Clark entering the diner to teach the trucker a lesson.
