That R2 cover is AWESOME! Much better then the goofy looking shiney cover we got.

I loved the movie. But I will admit that the new version is just a bit too long. I can see it hurting on multiple viewings especially. A 2 disc'r with both versions might have been a wiser choice for this particular release.

I bought the uncut and it was too long. This is one case where I feel the theatrical version is better. The unrated stuff might be worthwhile on PG-13 films, but this was a rated R film and already rather long for a comedy. There was really no need to add 17 minutes back into it. Leave it in the extras.

2+ hours for a comedy of this type is just pushing someone to turn it off. I thought the movie was good but there was no way that there were 17 minutes of worthwhile stuff put back in it. The movie also didn't have as much nudity in it as I was lead to believe.

The Unrated version of Bad Santa is 98 minutes. I believe it would have suited "Virgin" better if it was shortened by about 20 minutes, not extended by 17.

But who cares if the film suffers for it? Let's grab as many DVD sales as we can!

No way! The R1 cover is very symbolic of the film and the character. Yeah - the R2 cover does give you the jist - but too much of a jist and seems like the average R1 cover we always get. Not to mention it is WAY too busy.

The only thing wrong with the unrated R1 cover is the 'Unrated' note, of course.

Thank god i see people are seeing that this movie really suffers from being too long, i was actually starting to watch the clock and the people i was showing it to started asking if it was almost over at the 1hr45m mark and i honestly didnt know so much fluff was added.

I'd like to know also. I never saw it in the theatres, nut the unrated version seemed very choppy. Also, did I miss the part where he goes to see the priest, because the priest makes some comments at the end of the movie that made it sound like he knew the guy was a virgin.

actually i thought the raymond scene was in the theatrical cut.
i know the stormy dream/fantasy wasn't in the movie to begin with. the scene where andy tries to take off the woman's bra wasn't there. there are many scene's of what i assume are improvs that are extended. alot of the scenes with Moujje were added back.

What I said was that the Raymond gag was ruined in the Unrated cut.

In the theatrical cut it goes: Andy gets ready to masturbate -> puts in porn tape -> not satisifed -> puts in another tape -> that tape is Everybody Loves Raymond. Gag hits and succeeds.

In the unrated cut it goes: Andy gets ready to masturbate -> puts in porn tape -> not satisifed, so he tries to masturbate on his own -> insert terrible dream sequence with Stormy -> doesn't masturbate, so he tries another tape -> that tape is Everybody Loves Raymond. The gag crashes and burns, because the set-up is too long for a payoff that is not worth it.

Just watched the unrated last night, having seen the rated version in theaters months ago. From my memory, the main additional scenes are:

[edit: This list is now revised based on comments made in the commentary track]

- The first scene with Mooj, where Jay is confronting him about stealing his customers is all new.

- Mooj's speech to Andy the day after the poker game is longer.

- David and Haziz arguing at the back door to Smart Tech is extended.

- During the sequence of Andy walking home trying to not think about sex, the parts with him stopping at the magazine stand and subsequently bumping into the lady are new.

- Andy's flashback of wrestling with one of his girlfriend's bra is either completely new or extended.

- In the bar, Jay's speach about peripheral vision, and Andy fumbling around the bar, is new

- In the bar, after Jay tries to convince Andy to bag a drunk girl, there's an additional scene between Cal and Andy before transitioning to the bachelorette party.

- All of Cal's mentions of being a novelist is new.

- As mentioned before, the fantasy sequence with Stormy is new.

- Cal's mentioning the box of porn the next day is new.

- Cal talking with Paula about Andy faking being a virgin is new.

- The phone call Andy makes to the Viagra hotline is new.

- Andy offering Mooj better shifts is new

- Jay's fight with the customer is extended.

- At the health clinic, some additional footage of Andy fumbling with the sex organ models.

- Paula asking Cal for some pot is new.

- David selling the TV with the Micheal McDonald DVD is new.

There's also a few little extensions to scenes and bits of dialogue that are only a few seconds extra to some scenes, but they add up.

I picked up the unrated version of this used from Blockbuster. I watched it and I'd say that the pacing trouble is largely because people are used to watching the theatrical cut. I watched it in the theater months ago and while the pacing is obviously slower in the unrated version, it wasn't bad (to me). I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't already seen the theatrical cut.

Originally, I intended to get this used and pick up the theatrical cut later, but I think I'd prefer to just have the unrated one now. I like the scenes that were added/extended.

The total running time was 2 hours and 8 minutes (to when the credits started rolling). Not too long and I believe on par with Wedding Crashers Uncorked edition.

Also, according to IMDB:

Nearly 15 minutes of material had to be cut from the film in order to avoid an NC-17 rating from the MPAA.
If that is true, then the 17 minutes added back in seems about right anyway.

I hadn't seen this in the theater, and just watched the unrated today. Personally, I didn't think it was too long at all. In fact, I didn't even realize it was over an hour and a half.

The movie itself was great, although the ending is kind of lame. Funny once, but I imagine I'll shut it off before the credits. Basically, the same thing I do with Holy Grail.

I still haven't watched my Unrated edition. Question though, does anyone know if this is the original cut? What made them add so much footage back in? Usually it's a few minutes but this is a lot.

Judd Apatow on the Unrated Version of The 40 Year Old Virgin found here:

When it comes to the DVD, we added back 17 minutes because there was a longer version of the story that had a lot of scenes that we think are great, but we knew no one wanted to sit in a movie theater that long. But you can sit on your a** and eat potato chips and watch it over the course of a week if you want to at home. And we put out the theatrical version on DVD also, if you want to see that version.

Did you view the Unrated cut? One of the things I was saying to myself after watching it was "man, there was a lot of women revealing their boobs in that movie", which is always a good thing.

Has anyone heard anything on a new DVD edition? This is my favorite comedy of all time but I just recently saw on Amazon and other sites that there appears to be some sort of a dvd coming out on May 22:
http://www.amazon.com/40-Year-Old-Vi...3390594&sr=1-5
Doesn't seem to be a price drop, maybe it's some sort of a new edition?
Does anyone have any info on this?
P.S. anyone know why I can't seem to post a new thread?
