A Bridge too Far and The Battle of Britain 2 Disc SE -> 10/25/05

From dvdanswers.com

Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment has revealed very early details on two-disc special editions of A Bridge too Far which stars Dirk Bogarde and James Caan, and The Battle of Britain which stars Harry Andrews and Michael Caine. Both of these classic movies will be available to own from the 25th October this year, and should set you back around $24.96 a piece. I'm afraid Columbia hasn't revealed the specs, or artwork for these titles yet, but we'll bring you further details very shortly. Make sure you stay tuned!

i'm thinking these are the first (major) MGM titles that Sony are releasing through another label? i already own both of these as R2 MGM releases (they've been available for quite some time here in Europe).. assuming these will be the very same releases as the R2 MGM releases, anyway.

I already own both of these titles, but would be interested in double dipping if both movies were simply anamorphically enhanced. I am especially interested to see what kind of extras they could dig up for the Battle of Britain (documentaries on the blitz perhaps?). Thankfully the original releases were inexpensive, so a double dip shouldn't be prohibitive.

Have both R1 Mgm titles. Never much cared for ABTF. If they are both SE like the R2 BOB, I'am intrested. I just hope sony/columbia does not just re-package the current two R1 titles together and call it a SE.

Home media retailing has a two page spread for these titles and both WW2 box sets. I'd scan it, but its much to large to fit on my scanner. The cover art for both is similar to the Great Escape disc. I'm sure someone will have this online in a few days.

These are the features listed

Battle of Brittain Collector's Edition
-all new 2 disc set
-Collectible packaging including 8 page booklet outlining the history of this landmark battle
-High-Definition Widescreen Presentation
-Hours of Extra Features including a director's commentary, vintage and new making of documentaries, interviews, the original William Walton theatrical score and more!

A Bridge Too Far Collector's Edition
-all new 2 disc set
-Collectible packaging including 4 page booklet
-All new High-Definition Widescreen Presentation
-Hours of Extra Features including writer William Goldman (Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid) commentary, trivia track, An Interview with director Richard Attenborough, A&E's History Channel Documentary "A Bridge Too Far: heroes from the sky" and more

I traded in my A Bridge too far DVD last year I believe when I first heard of a SE edition but I was getting a bit uneasy cause I haven't heard of the new release for awhile and I almost pulled the trigger and bought it again....almost. So thank you for this thread with the release date and I can breathe a bit easier knowing it's due to come out soon.

I thought Sony was retiring the MGM brand name? Are they planning on keeping it active like Columbia/Tristar? If so, will it be limited to home video releases or will new films be produced under that name/production company too? Or are these just ones that were already in the works before the buyout?

I wasn't aware of the remaster any reviews of it anywhere?? I have the old version and it really could use an update. I saw the film in the theater when I was a pup and it made a great impression.
