It has a few good moments, but on the whole this is a pretty weak story with a really poor and ridiculous ending.... If they wanted to release a story from this season, I would love to have seen Nightmare of Eden come out instead.... yeah, I know that Eden has a lot of detractors but I think its an overall really good & entertaining story.... leagues better than Pit..... oh well....

Well, I kind of liked Creature From The Pit. Romana II looks pretty good in it, and all that green foliage is rather pleasant on the eyes. ;)

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)
I know we have a bargain forum, but since this is a specialized thread already I thought I'd mention it: Deep Discount has a sale on everything BBC, which of course includes the good Doctor. Looks like it runs through 02 July. We just had to drop a chunk of change on a new computer for the wife, otherwise I'd clean house over there.

Well, they plan to release everything sooner or later. They don't want to release all of the clunkers at the very end and watch their profits plummet for the quarter. ;)
Just be glad that the Doctor Who stuff is getting released separately, instead of in some kind of sets. If you don't like them, don't buy them, and be glad you can buy the ones you want when they're released. @moonraker: I hope the irony inherent in your post wasn't lost on you. Within one paragraph, you labeled one episode "weak" and then lamented the fact that one that you like that "has a lot of detractors" isn't getting released. |
Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)
Also... Moonraker... the one Bond movie no one wanted included in their DVD sets and were angry at having to purchase to get the good ones. :D

Series 5 Sort of Announcement
From the BBC America Shop Blog:
What do Doctor Who and Sister Wendy have in common? They both looked at this painting and saw something wrong. In the good Sister’s epic The Story of Painting, she points out the curious fact that Van Gogh, a failed seminarian, had painted this church with no door. The Doctor sees something even more peculiar. But what? The answer can be found Saturday night when BBC America airs “Vincent and the Doctor,” the first (and so far only) episode to be written by an Oscar-nominee, Richard Curtis (Blackadder , The Vicar of Dibley). Even if you haven’t been following the current Doctor Who season all that closely, sheer curiosity and the lure of plein air Provence might be the trigger. There’s also a special guest cameo by Bill Nighy (State of Play, Gideon’s Daughter), whose big breakthrough came in Curtis’s Love Actually. We understand that a lush 6-disc collection is in works and should be available on both Blu-ray and DVD in time for the holidays. |
Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)
It would be pretty cool to have a boxed set that looks like the Pandorica that includes some special Van Gogh paintings on post cards! :)

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)
Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series" will hit Blu-ray and DVD on November 9 and that it will contain a truly tantalizing extra: two newly filmed sequences, both written by Steven Moffat and available only in this collection. They are called "Meanwhile, in the TARDIS ... " and, as that title suggests, they are drop-in moments that show what happens between the episodes -- I suspect they're the comedy mortar between the story bricks, and with Moffat's wry sensibility and the daft charms of Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, I'm guessing these interstitial escapades have a chance to be pretty entertaining. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/hero...ng-extra-.html http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Doctor-Season-5/14103 |

Sweet!
I never thought I'd live to see the day that Doctor Who would actually be news in an American newspaper/bloggie thingie. |

It's snowing in Hell.....
TV Movie coming to North America 2|entertain has confirmed the 1996 TV Movie will be released on DVD in North America. The news was given by the Commissioning editor of the Doctor Who range, Dan Hall, in an exclusive interview with Hoo on Who. The TV Movie stars Paul McGann in his one television appearance as as the Eighth Doctor. It was made as a co-production between Universal Television, BBC Television, BBC Worldwide, and the Fox Network and as a result the DVD rights outside the UK were not, until now, available to 2|entertain. Following discussions between 2|entertain and Universal the situation has now changed giving North American fans a chance to own a Region 1 version of the story for the first time. The DVD is expected to be released in North America within the next twelve months. It will also be released in Australia and New Zealand. |

They're working on a Special Edition release right now. It's supposed to be 2-Discs. Maybe they'll get the Behind The Scenes clips that Eric Roberts has on DVD and sells at convention appearances.

Thanks. I couldn't find it when I looked.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)
Awesome news, now they just need to get McGann in for an appearance with Eccleston, Tennant and Smith in a multi-doctor special!

From Gallifrey Base:
DVD Global Release Schedule Synchronised Monday, September 13, 2010 - Posted by Marcus Classic Doctor Who DVDs will in future be released simultaneously on both sides of the Atlantic. In the past fans in North America, Australia and New Zealand have had to wait several months after the UK release to get their own versions of Classic Doctor Who stories. BBC America has confirmed this will change for North America in the New year and it is expected that the change will also apply to Australia and New Zealand. Starting with the January release of the Fourth Doctor story Meglos, it is expected that most Doctor Who DVDs around the world will be released the day following the UK release. In order to catch up with the backlog extra releases will be scheduled during 2011 to bring the overseas schedule in line with the UK one. |
Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)
This is nice. What's nicer is that to catch up they're going to put out the seven backlogged discs out so we'll be getting around twelve or so releases in the first half of the year. Three of those, sadly, are the remastered re-releases of a few early stories. We'll be getting more of those in the next year as well.

I wouldn't mind a redone re-release of Robots of Death with subtitles so I can understand what's being said.
