Paramount Home Entertainment has announced Schultze Gets the Blues which stars Horst Krause, Harald Warmbrunn, Karl Fred Muller and Ursula Schucht. The film tells the story of accordion player Schultze, who has spent his whole life in a small town in Saxon-Anhalt near the river Saale. Schultze's life, divided between work and the pub, the allotment, folk music and fishing, is rudely interrupted when he and his mates Manfred and Jürgen lose their jobs. Upon listening to the Blues one evening, Schultze discovers a newfound appreciation for this different music style, and although his English is very limited, he decides to try out life on the other side of the hill and takes a trip to America. The film will be presented in anamorphic widescreen along with a German Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Extras will include a commentary in German with English subtitles by Director/Writer Michael Schorr and three theatrical trailers.
How can you not love that DVD coverart? :)

I just put in The Machinist to watch for the first time, and I was letting the DVD play for a few minutes while I was finishing up some things on the computer, and a cool trailer came on for this little German film, Schultze Gets the Blues.

I don't quite know what it was about the trailer, but it convinced me to pick this one up when it comes out in about a month. Have any of you seen this film? Are any of you guys looking forward to this one hitting DVD?

I really loved this film. It's probably not everybody's cup of tea, but I was very touched by it.

I loved it. It's very low-key, but still is full of little jokes and humourous bits. I was laughing out loud in the theater. The lead character doesn't have much dialog but still manages to be warm, human, and amusing.

Well, if you are looking for German-language productions...my top pick from last year was Gegen Die Wand. Superb film!!!

Soda Pictures-UK are releasing the German cut of the film this August.

I would also recommend Reconstruction...from the Danish director Cristoffer Boe...which I simply loved...and what do you know he graduated from the same art department I did at Indiana University...years ago.
