FINALLY Naked on DVD. Glad to see the rumors were true.
Yea I agree lemdog...I can't help but be underwhelmed by the Naked cover.
I prefer this French edition cover. http://img243.echo.cx/img243/5463/nakedfrance9lt.jpg Extras look awesome though here |
Underwhelmed as well. It took them THAT long to come up with that? Still going to pick it up, though. Great film.
Been looking forward to this release. Bad cover or not, I'm all over it.
If this were anything but Criterion I bet people would say those covers look great. Sorry, I don't understand that.
Higher standards for Criterion maybe?
Criterion's laserdisc had a dark green cover with a bar code printed on it in slightly lighter green print. I'd attach a pic but it doesn't photograph clearly.
I liked it, but it's not the kind of thing that jumps out at you on a retailer shelf. |
Both of those are terrible covers....very, very poor design!!!
Pro-B |
The sad thing is that both films are

I like the Naked cover. I don't care much for Masulin Feminin.
Does anyone else think the cover for The Man Who Fell To Earth is just a little... I don't know... pretentious? Artsy fartsy? Awful? I know this is Criterion, a company that has ushered some creative and beautiful artwork (no floating heads here!), but come on... this movie? That cover? Blech.
Naked is one of my fave flix from the last few years...can't wait to gobble this puppy up!
Hey, Lemdog- I MADE Brewster McGee...and I think everyone on here should own it! |

I'm not loving that <b>Masculin-Feminin</b> cover, but I have to say it shows the shallow petulance of that character really well.
Having not seen Naked, all I can say is that the guy on the cover looks just like Lupin in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
It is. It's David Thewlis.
Personally I was expecting people to just love those awful covers, simply because it said Criterion. Glad to see people aren't drunk on the kool-aid.

What's up with all of these boring covers all of a sudden? |

The Naked cover is decent, but could use a different font. The Man Who Fell to Earth could also be better with a different font, and maybe not taking up the whole cover for the title. However, the Masculin Feminin blows. It's way too cluttered, and may be up there for worst Criterion cover yet.
The last 2 posts reflect my feelings on these covers as well. It's all about the fonts used, and their placement. I think the images are really good, but the title text is beyond bad! On Naked and The Man Who Fell To Earth, they both look like preliminary text, just to give a 'rough' idea of the placement. It's hard to imagine that that's how it'll end up. It just doesn't look professional.
I know it's not a "real" Criterion per se, but the Chasing Amy artwork was really shitty too. I think that might be the worst one.
