This is 20 of the first 21 episodes of SEASON 1 which was 38 episodes. Cannonball Christmas is missing because they are releasing it on The Beverly Hillbillies/Petticoat Junction Christmas Collection due October 25. I guess I'm getting this set as I've only seen 1 of the B/W episodes, I love the colored ones which I've seen on TVLand. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=3341 None other than MPI Home Video, who does a good job with Dark Shadows and other TV-DVDs, is preparing to bring us Petticoat Junction - Ultimate Collection as a 3-Disc Set that - unlike "public domain" releases that you can already find running around in bargain bins - is the first DVD release that is authorized by the estate of Paul Henning, the show's creator. Henning sadly passed away just a month ago, and so this DVD was not finished in time for him to view it. You will get a chance to view it, though. This package will reach stores on August 30th, selling for $29.98 SRP for 660 minutes of show. The cast consists of Bea Benaderet as "Kate" (who ran the Shady Rest Hotel), Edgar Buchanan as "Uncle Joe", Linda Kaye as "Betty Jo", Jeannine Riley as "Billie Jo", Pat Woodell as "Bobbie Jo", Smiley Burnette as "Charley", Rufe Davis as "Floyd" and Frank Cady as "Sam Drucker"...who will be well-remembered from this show's spin-off series, Green Acres. Guest stars included Adam West, Dennis Hopper and Charles Lane. Tentative Episode List: 1: Spur Line to Shady Rest 2: Quick, Hide the Railroad 3: The President Who Came to Dinner 4: Is There a Doctor in the Roundhouse? 5: The Courtship of Floyd Smoot 6: Please Buy My Violets 7: The Ringer 8: Kate's Recipe for Hot Rhubarb 9: The Little Train Robbery 10: Bedloe Strikes Again 11: Uncle Joe's Replacement 12: Honeymoon Hotel 13: A Night at the Hooterville Hilton 15: Herbie Gets Drafted 16: Bobbie Jo and the Beatnik 17: My Daughter the Doctor 18: Hooterville vs. Hollywood 19: Visit From a Big Star 20: Last Chance Farm 21: The Very Old Antique New episode Introductions with Linda Kaye Henning Documentary: The History of Hooterville Original Sponsor Commercials with Cast Network Promo Cast Interviews Special Footage Number of discs: 3 (660 minutes) |
660 minutes of entertainment for only $30 MSRP...that's a lot of bang for your buck. However, I was never a big fan of this show, so I'll most likely pass. Although, I am picking up the 1st season of the Beverly Hillbillies, which I think is being released the same day.

The color episodes are better because the 3 babes were made to look good for color t.v.
The b/w the 3 babes look dull. |
It's always a bad sign when they name the first collection as "Ultimate."
