LOVE AT 1ST BITE dvd:edited!!

Just pickked up the 1979 Dracula spoof LOVE AT 1ST BITE and the dance scene
which is supposed to have them dancing to "I LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE" has a different song.
This totally throws the dance number off.
But then when I watched the trailer thats on the dvd that scene has the song on it. The dvd has a good transfer, but that missing song ruins the dance scene.
And then they include a cheap unheard of disco song in it's place.
So buyer beware!

Crow331 07-23-05 09:24 PM

Hey thanks for the heads up!!! I have been meaning to pick this up, but with that little tid bit of knowledge, I will PASS!!!

darkside 07-23-05 09:44 PM

Yeah, its tough to imagine that scene without that song. I remember watching this film a few times on HBO back in the 80's when I was a kid. The packaging should at least warn that the music was changed.

Rogue588 07-23-05 09:56 PM

Oh man. WTF? -ohbfrank-

wm lopez 07-23-05 10:28 PM

And what makes it worse is that the transfer looks real good.
And you get both full-screen & widescreen.
I can't believe MGM went to that much trouble and wouldn't pay music rights to one song from a one hit wonder act.

buckee1 07-24-05 12:54 AM

I watched this on yesterday and the lack of the track really affects the dance scene.

meritocracy 07-24-05 01:24 AM

I was planning on picking this up as well. Thanks for the warning. I'll pass.

Jack Straw 07-24-05 02:01 PM

I bought this recently but haven't yet watched it. While this modification to the movie is a shame, it won't stop me enjoying the movie. I've waited a long time for this one.

Fielding Mellish 07-24-05 03:12 PM

It's seldom that I get my knickers in a bunch over music replacement, but... just... wow. This is the single most memorable scene in the movie.

Pure and simple, it's a sale killer. Thanks for the heads up.

Tracer 07-24-05 03:29 PM

Didn't the original VHS release have "I LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE" changed?

wm lopez 07-24-05 05:05 PM

Imagine watching Gene Kelly dancing to a different song in SINGIN N THE RAIN or John Travolta strutting to a diffferent song other than STAYIN' ALIVE.
That's how bad the mood is when watching the scene.
It's one thing if they replaced it with a another good song, but they insert a lame unheard disco song. And also the song "I LOVE THE NIGHT LIFE" is in the closing credits!
I wonder if this is a MGM goof altogether like the NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN dvd.
Anybody know where to e-mail MGM about this?

Crow331 07-24-05 05:29 PM

What???? Are you telling me that "I LOVE THE NIGHT LIFE" IS in the credits? or you are saying it SHOULD be over the credits and it's not there either?? If it's heard over the credits then that makes no sense! It's gotta be a fuck up on their part. Why could they afford to put it over the credits but not over the scene it actually appears?? Sounds like a major goof!

William Fuld 07-24-05 05:33 PM

I think he means it's listed in the credits.

Hokeyboy 07-24-05 07:15 PM

It's because of liberals.

Duality 07-25-05 10:08 AM

No sale! Since DVD player and disc sales are declining, you would think the studios would get it right. :(

strong agreement

Steve Phillips 07-25-05 10:30 AM

Old news. The video versions have always had that song replaced. If you want to see the original version, try to catch a pay TV showing. I recorded a DVD-R from HBO Family a couple of years ago and "I Love the Nightlife" is intact.

Funny, but on the DVD, the song is heard throughout the trailer, but not in the feature.

wm lopez 07-25-05 11:34 AM

It's listed only on the credits, not playing while the credits are rolling.
Now that was the widescreen side.
I didn't check the flipside full-screen to see how that is.

rennervision 07-25-05 03:16 PM

So who else has that dang song stuck in their head now?

Perkinsun Dzees 07-26-05 12:37 AM

"I love the nightlife, I got to boogie on the disco 'round, oh yea."

Thanks, that song in the dance scene was a major highlight for me when I first saw the movie in theaters. Now that it's not on the DVD, I don't want to ruin my memory of this film, so I'll pass. It's sad that studios fail to reach settlement on songs and have to ruin movies we remember one way and are now forced to see it another. Oh well, their loss.

rennervision 07-26-05 10:13 AM

Not to mention you couldn't pick a better song title when you consider who is the main character.

I'm just amazed that all the home video versions have been like this for years, but apparently I've never seen any of them. I always remembered the correct scene from TV over 20 years ago. Strange I've never heard any fuss about this until now.

lotsofdvds 05-09-06 06:45 AM

I'm recording this from INHD2 this week. If any of you have Comcast this might be the way for you guys to get the version with the song you remember.

rw2516 05-09-06 09:38 AM

It's not really fair to blame MGM on this one. Read somewhere that this and other songs are not available for use period , non-negotiable with the rights holder.

that was the first thing, that popped into my mind - music rights are so damn persnickety.
