Wow! This is great news. I'll be picking this up for sure. Futurama is pure genius. Each episode gets better the more times you watch it.

I still can't understand why FOX cancelled Futurama... yet continues to renew that piece of crap King of the Hill. I have never once laughed at that show. Mike Judge must have something on one of the FOX execs.

There are several reasons

1) The show got cancelled a few years ago when Fox and Matt Groening where not on the best of times... I remember for a few weeks it looked like even "The Simpsons" where going to get the axe because of fights over money and things like that.

2) Futurama was the second most expensive series on FOX (the Simpsons beings the first)

3) Futurama was always given early time in order to have younger viewers tune in, but all it did was take away from the old viewers numbers.

4) While creatively "King of the Hill" is a large step down from "Futurama" it continues to get okay numbers (not great, not bad) and is considerably less expensive to produce.

The news of a Futurama movies is awesome, just too bad it won't make it into theaters like the Simpson Movie (expected 2007, they actually have a script already!).

UNBELIEVABLE news!!!! Futurama is one of the Greatest shows of All Time, and ended WAY before its time was up. NEW futurama material is a nesesity in life, "I mean is that not what man has dream't of since he first looked up at the stars???"...

Don't get me wrong, I love Futurama, but I don't think it'll suit being in movie form IMO. I just can't shake the thought.

I'd definitely buy a direct to dvd futurama movie (at least to show support for the show)...I don't think many american animated shows would really support a feature length story though. Perhaps if they did an anthology (like the anthology of interest) of 3 half hour story segments (perhaps with some kind of underlying plot linking the stories together), it might work better for me than trying to fill 90 minutes with a single story arc.

But what do I know, the show has always been terrific for me and I'd put stock in this creative team managing to entertain me with whatever they release on this dvd

Anyhow, I'm all over this if it does come out (day & date).

Michael

Oh, uh. www.gotfuturama.com reports this:

Due to some communication hickup within CGEF, the following had been posted without all information attached. Most importantly, our latest information from David X. Cohen is that the movie(s) have NOT been greenlit yet. So, take what Billy says as a good sign, but not neccessarily as the final word on it.

I am very excited about this show, owning the entire series run on DVD, hoping that if the sales do well enough FOX would reconsider bringing it back on the air.

i remember hearing that Groening kept all the rights to Futurama and Fox didn't own any of it, so even if it did pull higher ratings than King of the Hill, it wasn't as much of a (potential) moneymaker for them.
