Thriller: They Call Her One Eye - 8/30/05

From Synapse:

"This version of THRILLER: THEY CALL HER ONE EYE is an alternate version of the film without the inclusion of the strong sexual content."

Synapse Films - Thriller: They Call Her One Eye

This disc is scheduled for release on August 30, 2005. I find it strange that they would release this film without the hardcore footage; I was under the impression that the director intended it to be there (unlike the alternate version of 99 Women from Blue Underground). Will fans of the original DVD be picking this up?

LorenzoL 07-14-05 05:46 AM

The Hardcore version of the movie was released already.

The Hardcore version of the movie was released already.
I noticed that because it's sitting on my shelf.

I thought it was odd that they would release a cut version at all, especially after the hardcore version. Notice how I mentioned the original DVD in my first post.

prince_of_saturn 07-14-05 07:58 AM

it is funny that the director of 99 WOMEN did NOT intended the hardcore footage, and DISOWNS that cut, and hardcore fans of thev director has spoken AGAINST that abomination, yet that version out sold the directors cut, believe it or not.

It could be to get the film in places like "Best BUy" etc.

TomOpus 07-14-05 08:04 AM

You could always get the first version at Best Buy. I'm sure they didn't know of the hardcore stuff.

ShagMan 07-14-05 08:05 AM

do we really need this? my bro-inlaw got the previously released copy, and the hardcore footage feel right into place with the rest of the movie really... I know I would not get the trimmed down version.

What a weird movie... the slo-mo fighting action was really trippy.

I wasn't aware of it either, until I saw the movie and was like

I don't know why someone would buy the sanitized version, without the hardcore scenes this film would be kind of lame IMO.

Paul Arnette 07-14-05 08:27 AM

Interesting...

OK, just so I'm certain, the director of Thriller: A Cruel Picture did intend the 'hardcore' footage to be included in his film though?

Thanks.

the hardcore version out selling the original non-X rated cut doesn't seem that surprising - hey pRon sells. :D

the fighting complete with the high pitched girlie screams is priceless IMO.

djtoell 07-14-05 09:08 AM

Thriller was actually designed for multiple versions. For example, it was specifically marketed at Cannes that its content could be tailored to the restrictions and requirements of various regions. Releasing it without the hardcore footage to target another market is completely justified.

I'm sorry, but this movie was absolutely awful. I love exploitation and had my hopes up for this one, but it felt like an acid trip or something.

That's a bad thing?

I think the movie is tremendous.

Thanks for pointing that out. The release date is August 30th.

steebo777 07-14-05 02:20 PM

You guys have just reminded me I still need to watch this flick.

Romerojpg 07-14-05 05:53 PM

I would prefer no Porno in the film thats for sure, it just felt wrong for me, so I would like the option of Porno free dvd so I could borrow it to friends and not feel like a smut peddler. Its a shame they could not have put both versions on the same dvd :(

Great film and I loved the extreeem slow mo shots! well ahead of its time, but for me the Porn made me not like it as much as I wanted to :(

The first release with the hardcore footage was slated as limited 28,000 copies
worldwide. Now another release is on the works guess the first release must have
soldout.

I've seen several used copies floating around since it came out. I always smile a little and think about the poor bastard who bought it because of the Tarantino name dropping on the package and whatever else.

I really loved this movie, though.. Easily one of my favorite DVDs of 2004.

so I rented this version last night and the hardcore inserts were so blatant and tacky, that you could see why Franco was not to happy with it, he also talks about it with quite disdain in the supplementary interview section on the non-hardcore version.

Borders has the first release of Thriller for $23.99. Should I pick it up immediately,is the film worth it?

Also at Borders, they only have the hardcore version of 99 Women. Now while it is nice to see a retailer stocking hardcore titles. In this case,it would be good if they stocked both versions for obvious reasons:)

Might be too slow and moody for most die-hard exploitation fans. But I think you'd like it. You're a Spit-Grave fan right? You could say it's a perfect companion for a double feature. Plus Christina Lindberg looks better with a gun than Camille Keaton.

I'd snatch it up soon. The fact that you're posting in this thread suggests that you'd probably be interested in this film (it's definitely not for some). I think you'll like it; it's was a lot of fun and definitely a nice surprise. If gore, sleaze, nudity, and some kick ass revenge are your thing, pick it up while you can.
