I'm not discounting the fact that the 3-Disc version has a lot of stuff in it. It just seems like they got there press release wrong.
Oh well, looks like its the 2-Disc version for me.

According to the ad in Home Media Retailing magazine:
The 3 DVD Collector's Version has:
13 hours of exclusive extras (2 DVD set has 10)
4 new documentaries (2 DVD set has 3)
5 Pre-1939 OZ silent films & cartoon
1 Premiere Ticket & Invitation (1939 reproduction)
Press Book Poster Page
10 Kodachrome Color Publicity Stills
Premiere Program
MGM Studio News Booklet
Photoplay Studies guide
The last 6 items listed are reproductions...... I'm psyched!

I'm also not buying just yet. Even with the added content $50 MSRP doesn't seem right. Gone with the Wind, Kong, Ben Hur all have similar added content and all are below this level of pricing.
The thing is...even if WB goofed up when telling e-tailers what the MSRP is, will they lower it to fix it? If it was an error, surely it would have been fixed by now.
My guess is that Walmart will have a very attractive price on the 3 disc opening week which will make this a moot point. Like the OP, I'm willing to go $25 on this, not $35.

If you think the price is high...then get the 2 disc set. Warner gives the consumer a choice, and at the same time. Not coming out with something else better 6 months later like other studios do.
The 3 disc set has physical collectables that may be "reproductions" but that are incredibly rare things that I, a huge Oz fan, have never even seen...
The opening night program? amazing!
Those gorgeous REAL Kodachrome photos. Wow.
The MGM Studio News. I have only seen one of them, and it wasn't about a film as amazing as Oz.
...and lots more
These items obviously were not cheap for WB to get, and not cheap to print.
If CRITERION were releasing this, They'd be retailing for a $79.98 SRP and no one would wince. They charge $40 for every 2 disc release, and there is nary a complaint because they are CRITERION.
Well, guess what. This is still a great deal, and the main thing is still the MOVIE. Every WB UltraResolution title has knocked me out. I expect this to do the same.

- An extra disc of other Oz films (Three "short" silent films, the '25 silent feature, and the 1933 Ted Esbaugh cartoon)
- The booklet, magazine repros, glossies, etc. (the printed stuff)

WARNING: Avid collectors will not want to part with their old DVD because of the tons of audio extras containing the complete surviving recording sessions of the songs and the complete incidental music, including unused cues, demos, alternate takes and rehearsal sessions. It's my understanding that these selections have been considerably reduced in the 2- and 3-DVD sets. I believe the only other source for some of this material is the 2-CD Rhino/Turner boxset of the film score.

I believe these are all, correct me if I'm wrong.

BEN-HUR cannot be presented using Ultra Resolution, as that process only applies to films made in 3-strip Technicolor.
