Chronicles of Narnia 3 disc set question...

How does the upcoming 3 disc set differ from the already-existing 3 disc set? It looks like it might have a better transfer, but I can't tell if the extras are different based on Amazon's page. Anyone know?

I'm not 100% sure but I believe it is just a rerelease in anticipation of the movie this winter.

mifuneral 07-02-05 09:51 PM

Odd, since the current release isn't even that hard to find.

i don't think anything is changing. just a msrp price drop and re-release to cross promote the movie. i wonder if the sticker across the top will still say the criterion collection

mifuneral 07-02-05 10:44 PM

oooh, price drop is always a good thing.

Why would it say Criterion? It never was criterion.....

Cameron 07-02-05 10:47 PM

home vision put it out. for some reason the security sticker read The Chronicles of Narnia The Criterion Collection

Do you mean the top will say BBC America??

Cameron 07-02-05 11:43 PM

no...i don't exactly understand you question....to the best of my knowledge at the moment...this is the EXACT same dvd down to the UPC. In the original pressings the large security sticker on the top of the case read The Chronicles of Narnia THe Criterion Collection. I still see these at some places, but have also seen them without the Criterion name.

I see BBC. Can you post an image of what you are referring to?

You are looking in the wrong place. Cam is referring to the security sticker ON TOP of the DVD, not on the face.

I seem to vaguely recall there being an issue with a few tiny snippets of footage cut from the initial DVDs that was on the VHS? I never had either myself, but I'm pretty sure I read someone on a forum noticed this. Might they be correcting this?

exactly. It is over the top black plastic. the sticker that keeps the thieves out. No way to post a pic, but if i find one i will camera phone it.

Besides releasing its own line of DVDs, Home Vision Entertainment also distributes the Criterion Collection. The security stickers are just a minor misprinting because of that. Home Vision put out the original Narnia set. The DVD is not part of the Criterion Collection.

^^^^exactly^^^^^

ok so i finally saw a new copy and the diffrence is this.

The old copy had 3 disc in a large triple keepcase.

the new edition has the 3 disc in their own seperate keepcases. so each disc has its own artwork, while the outer packaging has the same picture as the old release

RichardW 08-01-05 11:16 AM

How is this version? I don't recall ever seeing it.

bboisvert 08-01-05 11:55 AM

I thought it was entertaining, although you have to be able to look past the typical low-budget/BBC nature of things. At times, this makes Doctor Who look like a multi-million dollar production.

I would recommend renting it first.

agreed...it is on cue with a low rent jim henson movie. Won't dazzle the eyes like other titles of the same genre. Most public libraries have this to check out...so thats an option

That's what I was thinking. I'll take a look around and see if I can rent it. Thanks!
