I can think of a few FS only DVDs, all of which seem to follow the "younger audience" idea, with the exception of parenthood.

Vegas Vacation was originally released in FS only, but was re-released win WS a few years later.

It's the term "Full" being falsely thrown around that confuses the average joe consumer. "Cropped Screen" is a little more honest.

I'm willing to bet "Cropped Screen" would be no less confusing to J6P. ;)

Serial Mom isn't full screen. The DVD has a non-anamorphic 1.66:1 widescreen transfer.

Unless it's Open Matte...or 1.33:1 was the OAR.

Alright, then I go back to my old idea: "Narrow Screen."

Universal really frustrated me when they released the Arnold/Devito comedy Twins on dvd in Full Screen. To this date there has not been a Widescreen dvd released by the studio.

Add to the list Colossus - The Forbin Project, released only eight months ago in Pan & Scan only. Another travesty from Universal.

Colossus has been high on my DVD want list for six years now but I refuse to buy it in P&S.

I'm still impatiently waiting for all of these region 1 Fool Frame releases to be fixed:

If studios aren't going to stop releasing non-OAR DVDs, then they need to simply drop the Widescreen/Fullscreen labelling, and go with Original Aspect Ratio and Modified for X Screens, X being either Standard or Wide, since, as I mentioned earlier, certain films are given a 16x9 frame when their OAR is 2.35:1. Personally, I would rather see "Original Aspect Ratio" instead of "Widescreen" on most of my DVD cases.

That may be confusing for awhile, but it wouldn't take long for people to catch on. I guess I still have faith in people... it's not too late to stop trying.

I'm in total agreement - non-OAR is non-OAR, even if it's widescreen. Why can't everything just be OAR. It's not that difficult, Hollywood.

The current release of Three Amigos! is non-anamorphic widescreen.

The "Modified for Wide Screen" would be a good label for the cropped movies on the PSP. Then again, the ones I looked at didn't even tell you the aspect ratio on the cases, so I guess they wouldn't bother.

I don't know why the reviews on this site use words like "slightly cropped" to describe what is done to many of the 2.35:1 movies when transferred to UMD. The I, Robot review doesn't even mention that it's not OAR-it just says it's "presented with a 1.85:1 ratio transfer and fits perfectly onto the PSP’s screen." Imagine if the DVD was 1.85:1. Would it still be recommended?

So it is. Remand that one to my 'Impatiently Awaiting an Anamorphic Upgrade' list instead.

Another example of modified to WS is The Evil Dead: Book of the Dead which cropped the 1.37:1 OAR to WS (apparently with Raimi's approval). That's the whole reason I still own the Elite SE.

Agreed -- same here. I also find that the colors on the earlier Elite edition are more stable, especially the reds.

I'm pretty sure that Doc Hollywood is only available on DVD in 4:3.

I agree that the movies are not labled correctly. Full screen isn't full screen on my wide screen TV. I think it should be Limited Aspect Ratio or Old TV Screen vs Wide Screen.

When I first saw the lable many years ago, and there was full screen only version, I figured I was getting the "fullest" :) version.
