Ever Downgrade your dvds?
 

There are several dvds I downgraded to the single disc edition. I figure I only watch the extras once so what's the point of keeping the special edtions. Anyone ever done this?

I'm not understanding why you would want to buy the same movie TWICE just to get rid of the second disc. Why not just buy the movie ONCE and just not worry about that 2nd disc being there.

If you trade alot of movies it would be quite possible to downgrade and come out ahead. I have never done it, but have bought the old version instead of the new. For example, Beastmaster and Predator 2 were cheap when new versions came out and after looking into the releases I saw no real compelling reason to get the newer much more expensive disc.

I'd actually prefer not to support downgrading from studios (or excessive upgrading, for that matter...just get it right the first time), so no.

I could NEVER imagine downgrading SE7EN....not that I agree with doing it for any movie.

I haven't done it, but I could see selling a special edition and later rebuying a lesser version when the mood hits me to see the movie again.

I really don't care for special features, so it's definitely possible.

No kidding. SE7EN is a jewel in my collection. I still refuse to part with the Criterion laserdisc! :o

I'm getting rid of my Monty Python & the Holy Grail Collector's Edition and just sticking with the Special Edition. Does that count?

Yes, all the time. I copy all my DVDs over to VHS tapes so I'm not distracted by the superior audio and video quality.

I must say that those are some pretty solid movies to downgrade to a single edition only. All of those movies are some of my favorite films, and I think it's all a matter of need. If you feel better about having the movie only, and no extras, it is up to you. The film on the dvd is all that matters, the extras are quite nice and make a dvd more a dvd, but it is the movie on the disc that is the most important feature. So have I ever downgraded my dvds before, no, but I understand since it's the movie that some viewers care about most. Still, how could you downgrade SE7EN 2 disc set, it's awesome and an essential dvd.

I could understand maybe downgrading <b>Bounce</b>, if there was a single disc edition, cause, you know, it's <b>Bounce</b> and all...

If I like a movie enough to have it in my collection, then I want the most definitive version out there in terms of DVD content. Before I would go to a lesser version, I would just get rid of the title all together...

Hey, I do that too, and then I hook the VHS copies up to my computer, and compress 'em down to about 25MB each...

I replaced the Panic Room Superbit with the 3-disc SE that drops the DTS track. Does that count as downgrading? ;)

I just downgraded from The Karate Kid Collection (all 4 films) to just the first 3 (now available separately in keepcases). I also replaced my Halloween: Limited Edition 2-Disc set with the DiviMax 25th Anniversary Edition only to find out about the color timing issue and switched back to the single-disc THX edition and Extended TV version (exact same thing as the LE and the cheaper option). I also bought the Dances with Wolves SE and hated the extended cut so much that I went out and bought the original DVD release with the theatrical cut. I still have the SE, but I'm planning on selling it.

Sold Memento CE because I hated the impossible menu. Picked up the cheap version.

Sorry, I don't understand the concept of downgrading dvds.

If you don't want to watch the extras then, uh, don't watch them? Makes no sense to go through the fuss of selling a disc and rebuying a "cheaper" version simply to get rid of a disc you weren't watching anyway. Just keep the one you have. Maybe you'll discover that you actually like the extras.

Just have to chime in here, the fact that I am not only a film enthusisast, but also a COLLECTOR, I like to make sure I have the best possible edition for a DVD possible(only Reg. 1, have yet to go all).

So no downgrading fo rme.

Could you elaborate on the Divimax disc? I don't see anything listed concerning this on the defective DVD thread. I just picked this version up used about a week ago.

Edit : Never mind, I did a google search, seems to be a popular topic.

I don't understand the motivation. Sell a 2-disc Special Editon used, go out and buy the 1-disc version (I'd assume) new...you're left with a downgraded collection, a lot of hassle, and what, $5 in your pocket? Where do I sign up?
