Any news on "2001: A Space Odyssey" rerelease?

It's listed in the rumoured/confirmed rerelease list with no details. I did a search on the forum and not much came up. I'd sift through the rerelease thread but it's 22 pages long.

Where did the confirmation come from in the first place?

It was on the digitalbits rumormill a couple of months or more ago.

I'm still amazed that the year 2001 passed us by without a decent SE of this title. Warner should have had a major theatrical re-release, coupled with a huge SE release on video.

It's a real headscratcher that this didn't become a reality.

But it did come out in theaters, you missed it. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

Yeah, but it was only released in about 4-5 U.S. cities. Notice the phrase "major release" in the quoted sentence.

And, no, I didn't miss it. I made a road trip. ;)

You know you can search threads, right?

You mean by opting to have results appear as posts instead of threads? Doing that turned up a loooooong list of posts.

If there's another way, please enlighten be as it'd be EXTREMELY useful.

Hopefully Warner's got a sweet set coming, in the last 2 years or so Warner has gotten really good with their releases, I'm surprised they haven't released this yet.

I don't own either of the A.C. Clarke films, as I'm awaiting SE releases of both.

You can search within a specific thread. Go to the thread, and look in the top right corner of the very first post. You'll see a link entitled "Search This Thread".

Thanks, DJ!

I wish I had known this earlier as it would've saved me a lot of time. :(

I think that someone from WB said this was coming out in early 2006 in one of the web interviews on the HTF. I think they said at the same time that there was no plans for a better release of Cool Hand Luke.

yup here is the thread that discussed the chat and the Bits summary.

And some of them didn't actually get the print until 2002, which is when I saw it in 70mm.

I'm looking forward to a nice special edition for 2001, as well as the other seminal Kubrick films (hell, why not all of them?). Still, 2001 might lend itself best to being a special edition, what with all the technological and philosophical issues to be discussed. Although there obviously won't be a commentary from Kubrick, I would be highly interested if WB did something similar to what they did with the Matrix films: one commentary from philosophers/scholars, and one track from film critics/historians. This film seems ripe with potential for such a commentary pairing. Add in a second disc of quality documentaries and other assorted features, and it'll be an outstanding set.

I think this is being planned as a mega set something like 3 or 4 discs.
