Are there 2 versions of the SAW DVD case?
I purchased Saw when it first came out and it had the awesome see-through case. I let my friend borrow it and he accidentally broke it, so he paid me to get a new one. I ordered a "factory sealed" copy from an amazon seller and it just came today, but it's in a regular black case. it has a security device enclosed sticker on top, but no security device is actually in the case. There is also no insert. is this a bootleg? thanks for any replies in advance.

No, I've seen the one you've got. I guess they just decided to offer regular-type (read: cheaper) packaging from now on.

Is the cover the same as the original or different? I picked up a mint copy from the last Movie Gallery PVD sale and the cover looks like the one that's available with the PSP version. No insert. I assumed there was a different cover version for rental. But, I dunno.
UMD and the cover on the version that I have > http://images.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/678730h.jpg Original > http://images.dvdempire.com/gen/movies/650438h.jpg Glad you asked the question, I'm curious as well... |

That's the one, same as mine. Not a bootleg, my Movie Gallery had at least 30 of those on the B2G2 shelf. Wonder if they just changed the cover for a new pressing or something... :hscratch:
Any Saw owners with some input on their copy/cover/case? |
Yes, there are indeed two versions. The one I have is a clear keep case with a clear sleeve that has the title logo and text. Inside, the DVD is made to look like a round sawblade. The other is the one that you have.
When I purchased mine (during the first week or two of release), the local retailers had both versions. I picked the clear one because it looked nicer, IMO. |
I assume a lot of movie rental places have other versions made for them because you can't put security locks on special made cases, such as the original SAW release. I've seen the 2nd Saw DVD in the black keepcases at many Blockbusters. Also at Hollywood video a while back I bought keepcase versions of both Matchstick Men and the 1 disc of Mystic River. Again I think they need some way of locking those things up so people don't try and steal them, so maybe movie companies make specials versions for them?

this is the only case to have...that black is hideous.

I guess I'm in the minority. I'd much rather have it in a standard keepcase. I don't care for all the gimmicky cases. I went out of my way to get Total Recall and Basic Instinct in normal cases when they first came out and was quick to make new custom covers for my Evil Dead: BotD and American Pie: UE. And I'm on a mission to eliminate all snappers and digi-paks from my collection too.

im kind of upset, but since it was only $5 for a brand new sealed copy, i guess it's okay

Wow, never even realized that it came in a standard black case.

Sounds like a rental case (Similar to the RE: Apocolypse and I, Robot ones)
