Dirty Shame NC-17 Questions and can I rent it?
I was interested in seeing John Waters' "A Dirty Shame" but all I can seem to find to rent at BB and such is the R-rated version. I read that it is very poorly edited and I wanted to watch the film in its glory. Now I'm not sure I want to pay $20 for something like this, but I do want to see the uncut version. Does anybody know if any chains like Hollywood Video, etc. are renting the uncut? Thanks

Hollywood Video, Blockbuster and Family Video are all only carrying the Neutered Version (Rated R) for rent. This version has no extras on it at all.
The NC-17 version is loaded to the gills with extras including two commentaries, a feature length documentary (Aprox. 82 Minutes) and other goodies.
I picked this up at Best Buy for $19.99 this morning. Funny thing is my Best Buy (Westland, Michigan) had multiple copies of the R-Rated version and only about five copies of the NC-17 Version.
Who would really prefer a cut version of a film when a uncut feature filled version is available for the same price sitting right next to it?
If you're a John Waters fan, you'll enjoy the film. It's filled with lots of dark humor.
Hope this helps.

Netflix has this in the uncut form? I thought they didn't do that. I know my Blockbuster Online says they don't have the uncut version.

I'm not aware of any films that Netflix stocks that aren't the uncut versions. I hesitate to speak so generally, but I've never gotten a "cut"/R-rated version from Netflix when an unrated version exists.
And Netflix carries all the genre films with hardcore inserts (for ex, "Thriller: A Cruel Picture", "Emannuelle in America") or artfilms with real fucking integral to the plot doncha know ("Pola X", "In the Realm of the Senses"). They even carry HK DVDs that are R0/NTSC for films that don't have official R1 releases ("2046" was the last one I rented).
In my experience, Netflix has the best selection of all the rental outlets, and doesn't presume to be your nanny when it comes to sexual material.

Willh51: I am in agreement with Zombie67. If you are a John Waters fan go ahead and purchase the NC-17. You will not be disappointed.

Be careful with Blockbuster.com....I just got Seed of Chucky and the website says UNRATED...but I'm pretty sure I got the rated version. (The envelope even said UNRATED)
