Universal has announced plans to release several $12.98 titles this September. These include 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen releases for Psycho II and III. Psycho II will include English Dolby Digital 4.0 Surround and Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo tracks, whereas Psycho III will include English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, French Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono and Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono treatment. Also up for grabs from the 13th will be Doctor Detroit, Heartbeeps and The Last Time I Committed Suicide. Doctor Detroit and Heartbeeps will both receive anamorphic widescreen transfers and English Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono tracks, whereas The Last Time I Committed Suicide will be presented in 1.33:1 full frame, along with an English Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo track. As far as we know, no extra material will be included on these, but we'll let you know if that changes. Stay tuned for the official package artwork.

I'm so unbelieveably excited about this. Between Psycho II and III and the Hammer Horror collection, September is looking to be a great month for DVDs. :)

For a minute I thought that said "American Psycho 2 & 3". What a relief!

Drexl 06-10-05 11:26 PM

I take it we can also expect an anamorphic transfer for the original Psycho with the other Hitchcock titles in October. Surely they wouldn't pass over it in favor of the sequels.

davey_4964 06-10-05 11:49 PM

I'm still hoping for a Psycho 4 release on Dvd.

Cameron 06-11-05 12:15 AM

glad for the sequels...still wish the original would get the treatment...psycho 2 is one of the only P&S dvds i have...along with the sting....so good times are coming

Nice trend seeing MSRP $12.98 and $9.98 (Paramount) on some catalog titles.

I thought that too. Then I remembered there was no AP 3. AP 2 was horribly bad, but in a very good way - and I would own it if I ever had the extra 8-10 bucks to pick it up.

Great news about the Psycho releases.

Nice. Next I hope universal starts expanding their film noir line soon (Blue Dahlia, Glass Key, Ministry of Fear, etc)

Why can't they keep the original covers? These are terrible. The original laserdisc and video covers of Psycho III w/ Norman holding the key to Cabin 1 is so much better.

Cameron 07-20-05 02:15 AM

yah...

Norman Bates looks like the great and powerful OZ

demonio 07-20-05 04:02 AM

haha The Covers are crappy but what else should we expect its Universal!!

With parts two and three out now, does anyone have any idea if there's any thoughts at all toward a box set with part four? I don't want to get these two and then land up having to rebuy them if so. Or even part four by itself..? Thanks for any input!

someone just posted over at HTF

For those of you who have a HDTV and receive HD programming, Universal HD (Channel 74 on the DirecTV package) just finished airing Psycho IV: The Beginning in HD. It repeats at midnight Eastern time tonight. The film looked great. It featured more blood than what is seen on the network viewings. It also featured some brief female nudity including topless shots of the first victim and of Olivia Hussey. It seems like there was also some extra dialogue. Aspect ratio was about 1.78:1 or 1.85:1. I had always assumed this was a made for TV movie (for Showtime in 1990) and that the correct ratio was 1.33:1, but not too long ago I heard that it did actually play in a few theaters before airing on Showtime. Anyway, it makes me want it on DVD even more now. Maybe this fall?

-----------------------------------------------
side note, someone also mentioned that the fourth film is owned by Turner, not universal...i do not have a copy so I can't confirm this. Hope a dvd turns out, wish I had a dvd burner for instances just like this.

Not that this means much, I guess, but I remember when this came out on Showtime. I couldn't wait to see it, and as memory serves, this was billed as a Showtime original or whatever they called it back then. It may at one time have been intended to be shown theatrically (and as some US TV movies were, it may have been shown theatrically abroad), but it's airing was 1.33:1- so I guess that should be considered it's OAR. That being said, I don't get the HD packages, but I would like to see this new transfer in case anyone gets it- dvd-r hrpmh torrent <cough>. Watch out for the iced tea.
