"Isn't there a pretty hefty fine for stores that break street date? I mean, I can see if one or two stores accidentally have a couple copies lying around. Especially if it's anime or some low exposure release. But if there's enough of this going on that an entire thread must be dedicated to it, that's kind of a serious matter."
The clerk who sold the two WS copies to me said that they could get fined $250k for breaking street date but the cashier said to her, "go on and give it to him". So, she sold em' to me. The box she pulled the WS discs from clearly showed a June 14th release date on the side as well. I'm guessing that maybe they have sold so many of the FS versions early at this location, it really does'nt matter at this point.

I went to another WalMart today. I'm having a blast with this as you can probably tell.
They had Jaws ad Casino, both in Full Screen, again.
Asked the guy to open the case so I could get a copy of Casino, but I told him I needed Widescreen. He said they didn't have any. I asked if they had any in the back and he said they did have Widescreen in the back but he can't put those out until Tuesday.
Soooooo....it looks like you can break the street date all you want if they are Full Screen copies. Makes sense.

I checked two Walmarts in my area and one had two empty spots on the shelves for them, and the second store had Casino only in full screen and an empty spot for Jaws. I asked an employee if he had any widescreen copies in the back and he said if it's not on the shelf next to the full screen version then they won't carry it. Oh well, I'll just wait until next week and pay a dollar more at Best Buy.

More than likely any walmart you visit will have foolscreen ( I work in electronics) We reset the video modulars over the weekend. Several of the titles were put out early, all re-releases. Such as Gone in 60 seconds, Coyote Ugly, Jaws, etc. I assume the company planed ahead and put Casino and Jaws re-release and the rest, on the A-Z mod, to continue to sell after the re-release period. However as we all know, once walmart sells a movie after its initial release, its usually fullscreen only copies for sell. I was going to pick them up early after i set the mod, but noticed it was full on both. However a few days ago the widescreen copies arrived for tuesday. Go figure.

I wonder if only O.A.R. dvds were released if people who hate widescreen would refuse to purchase dvds then?
I witnessed just that at Best Buy a few days ago. A woman with her boyfriend was looking in Drama for For The Love of the Game claiming how "I LOVE that movie,it is sooo great!". She swipes the dvd off the shelf happily, then looks at the box and cries in distress "Oohh it's only in widescreen!!!" pouts, then puts it back and leaves upset.
Should I have tried to set her straight? She took off so quick,I didn't have time to get a word in. Oh well,I'm sure most P&S lovers are beyond help. So I hardly bother.

This is off-topic, but in all seriousness I've heard people say "I just feel like I'm missing something if my screen isn't filled."

I've made attempts at explaining what OAR brings to the viewing experience, but to no avail. She wants her screen filled, and she doesn't care if she's missing nearly half the picture. What she sees is what's important; the rest of the picture doesn't matter. Nor does the artistic vision of the filmmakers. She does, at least, acknowledge the benefits of widescreen for certain types of films.

I checked the local Wal*Mart earlier just for kicks to see if they had these two out early too, because in the past, they never had anything out early. Lo and behold, they were both on the shelf and of course, in FS. So I just ended up buying the new 12 Monkeys CE for $9.44.

I am wondering if it would be worth checking out Wal-Mart after midnight tonight for Jaws? Will they be carrying the WS versions now that Tues is the official release date?
It is 11:10 P.M.,so I'd loved some replies before then. Oh and if you are wondering why I'd bother tonight. I have to stay up late anyway to give my little brother a ride to work at 3 A.M. and since I don't have work until late afternoon. I'm able to stay up all night if I choose.
