Title: Carlito's Way
Starring: Al Pacino
Released: 20th September 2005
SRP: $22.98

Further Details
Universal has announced an ultimate edition of the Brian De Palma directed Carlito's Way which stars Al Pacino and Sean Penn. The disc will be available to own from the 20th September this year, and should retail at around $22.98. The film itself will be presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with both English DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround tracks. Extras will include a Brian De Palma on Carlito's Way featurette, deleted scenes, a Making of Carlito's Way featurette, a photo and poster gallery, an original promotional featurette, and the theatrical trailer. Stay tuned for the official package artwork.
So if this holds true, looks like they'll add a DTS track and dump the current French 5.1 and mono tracks. Also added in for this release would be:
Brian De Palma on Carlito's Way featurette
deleted scenes
an original promotional featurette

and looks like the current extras will also be included.

I'm getting sick of these re-releases though Universal! ;(

AMEN, BROTHER!! Sure, The Thing needed an anamorphic release, but why not just do it the first goddamned place? And put it and a long making-of doc on the same and suck up bitrate?

The only thing that would make me consider double dipping on this is if Universal promises that this release will include their "DVD skips or freezes during viewing at least once or your money back" guarantee, just like they did for Casino!

great news. For some reason I never got the CE that was released in 2003 and DDD.com cancelled my order of the 2-pack with Mobsters even though they still list it on their site (for some reason they haven't removed it yet).

Except...the menu screenshots they show feature only the bonus materials on the current Collector's Edition, so either the press release is touting extra features that aren't to be found on the final release, or DVDAnswers is using the wrong menu screenshots.

I went to the theater today and they showed a trailer for Carlito's Way 2. Oh man, that looks terrible! Who the hell thought that was a good idea?

On track to becoming one of the most re-released titles ever, Carlito's Way is due once again from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment on September 20th. One of director Brian De Palma's most underrated films, this modern classic will be released as an "Ultimate Edition" DVD-14 disc featuring a 2.35:1 anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround tracks. New bonus materials will include deleted scenes, "Brian De Palma on Carlito's Way" new interview, "The Making of Carlito's Way" featurette, a vintage promotional featurette, a photo/poster gallery and the trailer. Retail is $22.98.

???

It's been re-released twice. There's about 30 different editions of Army of Darkness!

Yeah, and Army of Darkness (along with the Evil Dead series) takes the top prize for most re-releases. Geez, just ignore the "on track" comment if it bugs you that much.

Kinda cool that the cover matches the Scarface Anniversary edition.

And I was just about to search out the current release.

DavisDVD has the correct menu shots:

The disc appears to be a flipper so the following equation should be taken into account:
Universal Studios + Flipper Disc = Pausing/Skipping/Problem Disc

This is a great movie, and I haven't yet picked up any edition of this...but I'm hesitant to support this triple dip.

You know what's shitty about this? Other regions got the DTS track on the first re-release. So now, the only real extras are the other short video segments. People picking this up in R1 better hope the movie side is Dual-layered. I'm assuming Universal wouldn't be that stupid.
