Wake Up, Ron Burgundy

Any chance this will get a single release?

vedderstapp 05-31-05 11:51 AM

As a lover of Anchorman - for the record, you ain't missin' much

mikewendt 05-31-05 12:01 PM

Seriously... Not worth a single release.

dadaluholla 05-31-05 01:40 PM

I regretted even buying the gift set after seeing Wake Up Ron Burgandy.
Ended up selling it seperately on eBay for more than I paid for the whole package.

lotsofdvds 05-31-05 01:41 PM

I beg to differ. While I wish they hadn't tried to pass this off as happening after the events of Anchorman and just treated it as some sort of alternate reality version, there are several BIG laughs in it.

The scene where Ron is driving and staring at Veronica, the whole "Rip The Lid Off It!" subplot, and the scene in the car where Champ is professing his love for Ron are hilarious.

GuessWho 05-31-05 01:47 PM

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the original, but this sucked.

I kept the original and eBayed the "sequel" and got $30 for this disc alone, which was much more than I paid for the combo pack

dadaluholla 05-31-05 01:51 PM

I was so sick of anchorman by the time i got done with WURB that I went ahead and traded in the original movie as well.

Matthew Chmiel 05-31-05 01:53 PM

In all honesty, they should've initially just made Anchorman a two-disc set. Disc one with the unrated cut plus extras and disc two with all the deleted footage. While it is nice to have all the deleted scenes in one "neat" package, I'll agree with Mr. Lotsofdvds and there are some several big laughs in it. The scene with Brick eating the "food" from the trash can is worth the price of admission alone.

lotsofdvds 05-31-05 02:00 PM

To be honest, they didn't do these discs right at ALL. There's really no way to know that the commentary on the full frame, PG-13 disc is different than the one on the unrated disc. It should have been a 3 or 4 disc set with the original cut, the unrated cut, the new movie and all the extras (including the Best Buy disc).

I laughed more at the deleted dog eulogy scene that's hidden on the Best Buy bonus disc than I do at most other comedies.

MasterCXtreme 05-31-05 02:14 PM

I highly doubt it'll get it's own release. I personally think it's almost as funny as the first one, so get the gift set if you can.

Matthew Chmiel 05-31-05 02:22 PM

It should have been a 3 or 4 disc set with the original cut, the unrated cut, the new movie and all the extras (including the Best Buy disc).
While that would've been awesome, I don't think many would go for a four-disc Anchorman: Ultimate Edition.

lotsofdvds 05-31-05 02:23 PM

Why not? Ben-Hur gets a 4-disc set. Anchorman's just as good. :)

jmj713 05-31-05 02:31 PM

There's a different commentary on the PG-13 version? FUCK.

lotsofdvds 05-31-05 02:32 PM

Yup. I went back and bought the PG-13 one because I liked the theatrical cut better and lo and behold... the commentary is different.

GmoneyOwnsYou 05-31-05 03:47 PM

Well I lucked out today, after checking Best Buy, Circuit City and Target, Media Play had one two pack left. Wasnt about to buy the two pack as I got the first one for an average price of $8.50 at Hollywood video. So I took out the old pocket knife and cut out Wake Up. Funny thing though, it doesnt have a barcode so the cashier went off somewhere then came back and rung it up as $14.99. Probably just made it up. So over all I paid about $24 for both films. While I didnt like it as much as the actual movie, it had it's moments. Plus the extras are hysterical. Im a completist I guess so I was getting a little nervous about not finding it.

Wow, that's like, a crime, that thing you did there.

canaryfarmer 05-31-05 04:02 PM

Wait, you paid 15 bucks for Wake Up? Not exactly a bargain, there.

The way they marketed this disc is a crime in my opinion. It's what I like to call economic entrapment. It should have just been a two disc set for $19.99 like everything else. And now that the two pack is pretty much fazed out, they could at least sell a single release. It isnt like I stole the damn thing.

Considering everyone who bought the two pack paid at least $30 ($39.99 if they bought it at Media Play), and I paid about $24 for both combined. I would say I got somewhat of a better deal eh?

Yeah, but you did ruin the package for someone who may have purchased the two-disc set sometime in the future. And most people, like myself, were able to pay $24.99 for the set on street date at Best Buy.

I would say Anchorman is better. ;)

And what's the differences between the PG-13 commentary and the Unrated commentary?

jmj713 05-31-05 04:15 PM

Hold on, but isn't it pan-and-scan only? That's a no-no.

Yes it is pan and scan only, but you don't lose much on the sides and actually gain a little on the top and bottom. I wanted the theatrical cut no matter what after disliking some of the additions/changes to the unrated version, and the entirely different commentary track was worth it to me anyway.

Eric D. 05-31-05 05:28 PM

Dude that's criminal! I can't believe you cut it out. That is such a white trash thing to do. Now you ruined it for somebody who may have wanted to buy the whole thing!
