How much are Criterions worth?
I'm a broke college student looking to sell off part of my collection. i was wondering if there is a website to find out how much some of my criterions are worth. i've got some big ones like The Killer, Hard Boiled, Silence of the lambs, Spinal Tap, and Sid and Nancy so i'm looking to make a few bucks.

I should also direct you to this list by an Amazon reviewer: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...108924-3365763 |
or set a price and put them in the trade forum

Or if you would like, I'll save you the hassle of taking pictures, setting up long and detailed descriptions, deciding reserve and list prices, figuring out how much you want to sell and ship them all for, individually or as a whole .. and take them off your hands for $100. Can you provide pix??? :)

sauce I would say your best bet is to go into the trade forum here, and let us know in this thread if you open a thread there. (I have some interest in The Killer.)

The prices vary wildly even on the rare one. The going price for Silence of the Lambs is around $50, but I managed to find one for around $17 (not a boot). Even Silo can vary wildly in a matter of a few days. If you happen to sell it on a day that two people are bidding that both want it badly, the sky is the limit. On the other hand, if no one is looking at the auction that day, you might hit bottom. I have been trying to sell a copy of a Criterion for around $25 that normally goes for about $40 on ebay. No nibbles at all and it has been several weeks.

Sauce, I'd really use Amazon as somewhat of a price standard. All of the titles you have named, being OOP or rare, or both, go for a good amount of money.
I have seen the Silence of the Lambs going for $25-50 on a regular basis, Spinal Tap going for at least $75-85 minimum, and The Killer going for at least $125-$150 of course. Sid and Nancy prices seem to vary on Amazon, as do Hard Boiled. I know a lot of people here on the boards would probably buy them from you, saving you time and listing fees, and not try and rip you off either. |
About ebay, if you can sell them in a Criterion Collection "Dvd Lot" and sell them all together and set a reserve price for the auction, if you don't like the final price of the auction than you have no obligation to sell them at all to the high bidder if your reserve price isn't met.
As for the dvd's you can check http://www.criteriondvd.com/ and than determin e what you want to do! |
First the title of the Criterion I am trying to unload is Great Expectations.
Second, I spent months looking at ebay to see what sold and didn't sell. The one thing that I notice is that lots sell for much less that individuals listings. If a person is looking for one or two films, he is not going to buy a set of films and get duplicates. By the way, there is also something else that does not sell on ebay. I have over 500 dvds and vhs tapes for sale right now. I have sold 113 on top of that. I am listing at the rate of 5 to 10 new ones per day. I am stating this to indicate the volume of business I am doing. This started at the beginning of April. I am stating this to indicate the amount of material I am selling and how much has actually sold. Included with this is over 40 Black movies. This includes dvds, vhs, comedies, action, drama, and everything else. Only one item has sold. I can't figure out why. One the other hand, gay movies sell. I listed three of them and all of them sold within a few days. Weird. Austin |

But to be honest, I've completely stopped buying any DVD on Ebay. I've been burned a couple of times, and I'm sick of paying postage to return discs that are damaged or that aren't as advertised. This isn't meant to reflect on you, Austin, but I think a lot of people are just like me and have turned to Amazon Marketplace for greater reliability than Ebay. |
I picked up the Great Adaptations box a few months ago. I have a hunch (just speculation) that the David Lean films in this box (Great Expectations, Oliver Twist) will be going out of print around the time that the David Lean Sony/MGM box comes out. It's rare to have dual releases with the Criterions, but it does happen occassionally.

sauce07, are you willing to part with the Sid & Nancy for $35?
|
Let's not turn this into a make-a-deal thread.
If the DVDs are going to be offered they should be offered in the DVD Exchange Forum. Until then, please stop asking. |
