anyone else breaking the bank?

Please tell me someone else this week is breaking the bank because i'm pickup...

[14.99] The Aviator [Price matched from Circuit City at Best Buy (reason: Reward Zone)
[19.99] Chappelle's Show - Season Two
[17.99] The Day After Tomorrow: Collector's Edition [Price matched from Circuit City at Best Buy (reason: Reward Zone)
[17.99] Man On Fire: Collector's Edition [Price matched from Circuit City at Best Buy (reason: Reward Zone)
[17.99] I, Robot: Collector's Edition [Price matched from Circuit City at Best Buy (reason: Reward Zone)

Grand Total: 88.95 +tax...

Anyone doin' the same thing, or gonna try and convince me not to pick up a certain title [because there's possibly another dip coming of the same title, or something along those lines]

devynal 05-25-05 05:26 PM

Shoulda waited to buy TDAT, Man on Fire and I, Robot separately -- I noticed when I got TDAT and Man on Fire home, there were $3 off coupons in them for these movies!! Sheesh.

island007 05-25-05 05:31 PM

This is where perspective comes into play. I consider anything under $100 a light week.

Al Padrino 05-25-05 05:37 PM

Already broke the bank last week. Wound up with negative funds in the checking account (not explicitly because of DVDs) for a minute, but now everything's bad to normal. I'm not even considering buying anything until 6/7 so I can get caught up on my CH orders and to make sure my finances are a bit more secure before I go back into the fire.

DragonRomeo 05-25-05 05:37 PM

Wow, island that's pretty aggressive buying. Granted I'm a college student and generally strapped for cash all the time, it's a little steep for me this week. I mean usually I'm okay with the 30-40, but this like double and almost unnecessary [keyword: almost]. And, I'm partly based on quantity. One or two is about right for me in a week; 5 in one week, some 15+ hours of actual movie/show footage with the viewing of special features and extras [it's close to a full time job], is a little rough

natevines 05-25-05 05:46 PM

Hm, not quite as bad for me, but a good week nonetheless. I got the Aviator, Drums Along the Mohawk, Warlock and The Frogmen. I already watched them all :)

gutwrencher 05-25-05 05:57 PM

C'mon man, I bust the Donald. I'm still buying around 8 to 10 every week. How's that for shovin' it down my throat?

I'm having my "2000 Title Party" in about a month...wanna come? BYOB.

That's insane!

Shagrath 05-25-05 06:02 PM

All I had planned to buy this week was Aviator and Chapelle's Show. However, I got an itch to go used shopping today and dropped $100 bucks on some 7 Criterions.

At the beginning of the year, I looked at upcoming releases and figured that $160 a month should cover my "habit." Well, it's probably at least double that every month.

nemein 05-25-05 06:06 PM

Nope... not in a long time. In fact looking at my spending in that thread I've spent about as much since the beginning of the year as I normally would have in a month or two the previous years. Of course having a stack of gift cards and certificates has really been helping out ;) (for example this week was just the CE editions of Man on Fire and I Robot at no out of pocket expense to myself) but even then the number of interesting titles coming out just isn't what it used to be IMHO.

Mr. Cinema 05-25-05 07:26 PM

Nope. I have Aviator coming from Columbia House. And I already own the single versions of the Fox double dips, which contain the same picture and sound, so there's no reason to give them more $$$.

PopcornTreeCt 05-25-05 11:30 PM

Nope. I'm saving my money for James Dean.

NatrlBornThrllr 05-26-05 12:58 AM

Negative. I'll be getting The Aviator as a clearance rental in a few weeks for $10, and I won't double-dip on the two Fox releases that I already own (Day After Tomorrow and Man on Fire). The 1-disc is fine.

Any bets this ends up in somebody's signature by the end of the week???

DVD Polizei 05-26-05 04:08 AM

I'm not double-dipping on these movies yet. Probably won't but who knows.

cupcake jesus 05-26-05 06:14 AM

I had to restrain myself from breaking the bank. Picked up Chappelle's Show S2 and The Aviator, and I'm really considering going back today to get Batman:TAS vol. 3 and the I, Robot SE. All this after buying Resident Evil 4 for the Gamecube on Thursday. Great game, by the way. I take that back. I guess I will be breaking the bank this week.

Oh well.

cheers,

-the Jesus

cajun_junky 05-26-05 09:35 AM

Only the aviator for me....no double dipping on MOF, DAT, or I robot.

DVDHO 05-26-05 10:46 AM

No I have Soprano's season 5 and Twilight Zone DE Season 3 to think about this month.

This is what I bought this week, Aviator- $19.47, Drums Along the Mohawk-$11.23, Purgatory-$10.48, The Naked Gun 2 & 3- $20.00 and finally. So I Married an Axe Murder-$11.21. That's six DVD's in two day's !! Do you realize what that averages out to in a year? My wife is going to kill me when she finds out. But on the other hand, it's going to be a good holiday weekend watching them all.

The Bus 05-26-05 02:19 PM

Do you spend 2 hours each day catching up on each movie?

I slowed down once I got to the point where Iw as buying 4 or 5 titles and seeing 1. Now most of my movies are watched and what I pick up, I see right away.

Then again, I just bought 15+ albums today.

JOE29 05-26-05 02:28 PM

" Do you spend 2 hours each day catching up on each movie? " No I don't, I just watch them when I have time to watch them. Sometimes it's everyday of the week and other times I can't watch anything for a week, for me, it all depends on how much time I have each day.

mapasu 05-26-05 04:45 PM

How about next week:

Triumph of the Will SE$26.21
Blackboard Jungle $14.98
East of Eden SE $18.89
Rebel Without a Cause SE $18.89
Year of the Dragon $11.23
The Essential Steve McQueen Collection $48.24

Total $138.44. It had been a while that I bought so many dvd's in one order, but they're all worth it. Forgot to add Over the Top, will buy it later.

I bought The Aviator at Walmart today. I got the one with an extra disc with premier and biography of Huges, total was $16.92 including tax. 3 discs for $16.92 is not bad.

Mike Lowrey 05-26-05 04:57 PM

The only things I bought this week were Batman vol. 3 and the two individual releases of Godfather II and III.

In the future, when there isn't anything I'm buying, I may buy the I, Robot-CE. I still haven't picked up the deluxe edition of Fifth Element. Damn price won't drop on those. Same thing with Leon. Oh, and can anybody tell me why the 2-disc Starship Troopers-SE is still over $20?

Leon goes for around $15 around here. Is that the price you're referring to or is it higher around there?

DDD's listing for Leon: Deluxe Edition for $19.50

Amazon's listing for Leon: Deluxe Edition for $18.72 which keeps changing almost daily.

Both are now available as enrollment titles; I just got them that way last week (Unfortunately, neither had a slipcover...then again, the Leons and The Fifth Elements at my local Best Buy don't have them, either.)
