The Abyss Re-Release. Anamorphic?
 

Any differences between the 2 dvd special edition released years back and the new one.

Any unique extras and is the new re-release anamorphic ?

It really stinks that such a great movie is STILL not anamorphic.

yah, and its a great disc tooo...tons of special features and extended cuts...worth checking out, but i would upgrade if i could

Re-releases don't tend to have any other features unless they are called "Special/Collector's Editions"

it is the same discs, just in a digipak with
'fox collector's edition 1' on the spine.

Tell me about it. What's up with Fox not anamorphically enhancing these great films. Same thing could be said about True Lies and others. What's ironic is that these movies were a part of those late '90s Fox clamshell widescreen releases. I had several of them. Abyss was one of them.

Fox said in the last HTF chat " That they were looking at it..."
So maybe it is coming this year. Abyss SE is a cool disc even though it is letterbox.

I have to say, one of the best documentaries ever on DVD... hour long, and FULL of cool stuff. I haven't seen many other documentaries that were as easy going with about how tough it was on everybody... I loved the poster shown "The Abuse".

Maybe for Blu-Ray they will be anamorphic :)

This movie would look fantastic if it was anamorphic. Just imagine seeing it in an IMAX theater. WOW! But let's keep our fingers cross, that Fox will eventually re-release this DVD anamorphically in the near future.

Huh? You mean it should be full-screen because Cameron shot it in Super 35 and has said that he prefers full-screen for home viewing?

But i know super 35 is a little complcated.

Don't drag out that old chestnut, when he said letterbox, he only meant that it's widescreen but not 16x9. A small but dedicated group of netizens use that terminology.

I knew what he was referring to. I thought everyone called a 16:9 or 4:3 frame with black bars on the top and bottom to fill in the unused space a letterboxed movie. Likewise a 16:9 frame with bars on the sides to fill in the space is called pillarboxing. This way you keep the OAR and there is no distortion or zooming.

That was exactly what I meant.

That is a misinterpretation of what he actually said back in 1990, and is entirely beside the point now because he has changed his views and only supports widescreen at this point.

I like the white digipak that the Abyss comes in now. Also, at Best Buy the other day, I noticed Die Hard is now in a 2-disc digipak. It looks very cool as well. But it's $20 and they are selling the 5-star set of all 3 for $36, so I'm gonna just get that.
