Sweet, I sold the OOP one for a tidy profit a few months ago on ebay. There was no way this movie wasn't going to get a new release.

Well since the original audio mix was stereo and we all have enjoyed the film for years that way. The lack of 5.1 on the theatrical mix does not bother me at all. The film sounds excellent and rocks the house down

Now the inclusion of both versions is great and will make this a must buy. I am so glad I didn't pick up the original release(despite my attempts).

The only problem now will be to choose which version to view? I love the theatrical version and know it by heart. But the extended musical numbers in the longer version are truely fun,but the majority of the other additions are not great.

Hmm,I'll probably go with the theatrical now that I think about it.

I'll do my best not to tell my friend about this release. Since he recently bought the original dvd for $60 on ebay since he was desparate to own it

I think the original release had 4-track magnetic sound, so it should be 4.0. Don't know if this was released in Dolby optical- if it wasn't it would have played in mono at theaters that didn't have mag.

I believe he's only done one and that was for Kentucky Fried Movie which he was talked into by the ZAZ crew. He does do documentaries however, and the previous Blues Brothers DVD had a lengthy one.

Extras now include an introduction by Dan Aykroyd, a behind-the-scenes documentary, concert footage and more.

Any confirmation (pro or con) on the inclusion of the existing documentary on the new edition? I've yet to see anything that talks about it -- and dumping the existing DVD just ain't gonna happen for me if I lose that docu...

The specs list a behind-the-scenes documentary. Odds are it's the same one on the original DVD. Damn shame that the theatrical cut has been confirmed to have only 2.0 audio, but at least we're getting that cut, so overall I'm pleased with this announcement.

Oh, believe me. I never preorder a Universal DVD these days. It's just that they've been going back and redoing a lot of their previous SEs and all of them seem have carried the hour-long documentaries over.

Interesting....

Out of all the titles Amazon.com could be jumping on, they don't even acknowledge this release for furture sales. August 30th is not that far a way. I just thought that was interesting, that's all.

Unless that "Stories Behind the Making of Blues Brothers" featurette is the same documentary, then I guess not. No trailer either. Nice going once again, Universal. Now I'll be forced to hang onto the original DVD instead of selling it off on eBay(much like the recent re-release of Jaws that omitted the trailers).

Some sites show this is being released as a DVD-18, while others have it as 2 discs. Has a definitive release from Universal about this come out yet?

Really don't want to go the DVD-18 route....

(edit: not intending to suggest davisdvd doesn't know the final specs...just want to be cautious before I put my current OOP version up for sale...)
